Report on employee trainingIntroduction This report examines the performance of new recruits to the Solartech staff in the last two years, and makes recommendation on how performance can be improved.FindingsDuring our survey, we interviewed twenty recent recruits in the sales department and examined their results. We came to the following conclusions:-eight of them were doing an excellent job. In the case of two, they had exceeded their sales target by over 15%.-six of them had a good technical understanding, but seemed inexperienced at selling (three of them admitted they had never sold anything before joining the company). Their sales results ranged from poor to very poor.-the remaining six had a sales background, either through previous commercial training or a sales position. However, their understanding of the product was weak.RecommendationOur recommendations are as follows:1) Technical training courses should be made obligatory for new recruits and extra training must be given to those who are weak in this area.2) Sales training should be available to everyone in the sales department, but we recommend that in future the company does not employ people with no sales training or experience. Moreover, anyone who fails to meet their targets over four consecutive months despite having been trained should be asked to leave. Report on reassessment of job satisfactionIntroductionThis report sets out to use Workset colours to assess the accuracy of my job description as PR officer and to suggest a number of changes.FindingsIt is clear that there is a difference between the way the company views the job and the reality as I perceive it. Firstly, a number of areas which demand a significant proportion of my time are not mentioned in the official job brief. The segment on the pie chart which provides most cause for concern is the pink sector; this relates to my attendance at a number of meetings which I can contribute little. Another significant area is the grey segment; this refers to the unscheduled time I spend sorting out computer problems. I feel these activities are hampering my core work. As can be seen from the pie charts, the time I spend actively working to meet the goals agreed with my line manager is less than envisaged.Conclusions The above discrepancies clearly indicate that my current job brief is inaccurate.RecommendationsI would recommend that my official job brief should be updated using the Workset colours. It would also be valuable to consider the proportion of non-core colours in the pie chart and to investigate whether work in these areas could be carried out by someone else more suited to these tasks.A report on the investment in Ramsden Breweriesand Bute Chemicals PotentialIntroductionThis report aims to access which company, either Ramsdens or Bute Chemicals, this company should invest in.FindingsRamsdenThe company had mixed results last year, although turnover increased by approximately 25%, net profit rose by less than 4%. However, restructuring may be able to eliminate these inefficiencies and expected growth in the drinks industry suggests opportunities for increased profits.ButeResults were disappointing, with turnover and profit both falling slightly. Nevertheless, the company managed to increase its dividend to shareholders. The rumoured merger seems likely to push up the share price considerably.ConclusionDespit the merger rumours, any investment in Bute Chemicals would involve a risk. Ramsden, on the other hand, despite its present inefficientcy, is still profitable and has definite potential for further growth.RecommendationWe should recommend investment in Ramsden Breweries.A comparison of ERS and Worldwide RelocationIntroductionThe aim of this report is to assess which of the two companies, ERS or Worldwide Relocation would be the most suitable for the relocation of Fenway employees and their families from Seattle to Dublin.FindingsBoth ERS and Worldwide Relocation offer an accommodation and school search services. Both companies can organize visas and work permits. In addition to these basic services, ERS also offers removal and shipping assistance whereas Worldwide Relocation offers an integration program and assistance with partner employment. The latter is a key requirement for Fenway.ConclusionIt was concluded that both companies go some way to fulfilling Fenways needs, but neither meets all its needs.RecommendationWe should recommend that Worldwide Relocation be chosen to facilitate the relocation process as its services match Fenways requirements more closely than ERS do.Report on the assessment of suitability for home-based workingIntroductionThe purpose of this report is to assess the suitability of my position as Resource Planning Manager for home-based working.Findings My working pattern and that of my colleagues varies from week to week. During certain periods a large proportion of my time is spent doing fieldwork. This is followed by office-based collating and recording the data collected. Once the results have been recorded, I proof-read the colour copies of all reports and maps.As regards communication with colleagues, department meetings are held once a fortnight. At other times, the individual members of the team communicate either face-to-face or by phone, depending on their location. Apart from official meetings, the same results can be achieved whether I am in the office or working elsewhere.ConclusionIt is clearly that I could be able to undertake the duties while working from home for a large proportion of my time. Clearly, some days would be spent in the office for face-to-face communication with colleagues. It would also be necessary to use the technical facilities at times. However, in order to be able to work effectively from home, I would need to be provided with a networked computer and printer. RecommendationsI would suggest that I should be given the necessary equipment to work partially from home for a trial period. After this time, further consultation should take place in order to reassess the situation.Report on company re-investment of the profitIntroduction This report sets out to examine how the company should re-invest this years profits. The areas under consideration are the purchases of new computers, the provision of language training courses and the payment of special bonuses.Findings * New computersThe majority of company computers are quite new and fast enough to handle the work done on them. Consequently, new computers would not be recommended.* Language training coursesThe company aims to increase exports, particularly in Spain and France. Therefore, language training courses would be an excellent idea for those employees who deal with business partners and customers overseas. In addition, training courses would increase motivation: staff would enjoy the lessons and perceive that the company is investing in them. Therefore, language training would be an option.* Special bonus paymentsAlthough special bonus payments would have a beneficial impact on motivation, they would have no direct effect on the companys operations. There are also potential problems concerning the selection of staff eligible for the payments and the setting of a precedent for future payments. Therefore, bonus payments would not be advisable.RecommendationsIt is felt that the best solution for both the company and staff would be to invest in language training. It is suggested that the company should organise courses in French and Spanish. Those employees who have contact with partners and customers should be assured of places but other interested members of staff should also be allowed to attend.Practice:* Your company has planned three training courses: Foreign Language Development: Changes in Technology: Management Skills.* You have been asked to write a report, recommending the course you think would be most useful for people who do the same kind of job as you. * Write the proposal, saying which course you have chosen. Explain why you feel it would be the most useful and why the others are not so suitable. * Write 200-250 words on your Answer Sheet.Report on Company Training Course Most Suitablefor Foreign Language TranslatorsIntroductionThis report aims to assess three training courses and recommend one of them as being the most useful for all foreign language translators.FindingsThe three courses from which a choice may be made are:(i)English Language Development; (ii) Changes in Technology; (iii) Management Skills.All translators in the Company have university degrees in English Language and many colleagues in our field have postgraduate qualifications in Linguistics or Translation.
