Compare: at the end of by the end of in the end at the end of “在尽头;在末” by the end of “到/截止末”;主句一般用完成时 in the end 意思“最后、终于”= at last/ finally 即学即练 用适当的介词填空。 1. (对某人印象好;看重某人) think highly of(看重;器重), think well of(重视;认为好) think poorly of(不放在眼里;轻视) think nothing of(轻视;认为无所谓;认为没什么了不起) think much of(认为很不错) think ill of(认为不好) 我的发现:你能在课文中找出更多的定语从句吗?由五个关系代词引导的定语从句。2. Sand now filled the wells instead of water. 【instead】The wells were not filled with water.They were filled with sand instead. 【单词辨析】instead: 副词,单独使用,放在句首或句末做状语,“代替;相反” instead of: 复合介词,后接名词、代词、动名词,意为“代替;而不是” 把下列句子用instead改写: (1) The Chinese use chopsticks instead of knives and forks. The Chinese dont use knives and forks. . (2) Instead of working, Jack was idling away his time. Jack was not working. . (3) He decided to leave here on Sunday instead of Monday. He didnt decide to leave here on Monday. . 3. Mice ran out of the fields looking for places to hide. Looking for places to hide 是作ran out of the fields的伴随状况,是动词现在分词的一个用法;现在分词做状语可以表示时间、原因、结果、条件、让步、方式、伴随等情况。 (1)_ the children went home. 说着笑着,孩子们回家去。 (2) _ his address, I couldnt send the book back to him. 因为不知道他的地址,我不能把这本书送给他 (3) He was walking along the street, this way and that.他沿大街走,左顾右盼。4. All hope was not lost. 不是所有的希望都破灭了。 这是一个表示部分否定的句子。句型All. . . not. . . 或Not all. . . 均表示部分否定,可翻译成“不是所有的”或“并非所有的”。表示全体意义的“all, every, both, everybody”等与否定副词not连用时表部分否定; “none, neither, nobody, nothing” 等表完全否定。 Everyone doesnt like the story. = Not everyone likes the story. 并非每个人都喜欢这个故事。 Nobody likes the story. 没人喜欢这个故事。 练习 中译英 (1) 并非这两个学生都不喜欢这个故事。 _(2) .这两个学生都不喜欢这个故事。 _(3)Not all the children are noisy.
