Trip of a LifetimeNarrator: Ann had been saving her money for a very long time to go on her first trip abroad. She worked overtime, ate cheap food, hardly went out with friends, so that she could go on a trip to Spain. Finally, she booked a trip through a travel agency.Ann: Oh, Im just so excited! I cant believe this could be happening to me!Travel Agent: Yes, you will have a marvelous time. You will be staying in a very famous resort hotel. The bus will pick you up at the airport and take you back to the airport at the conclusion of your holiday.Ann: its just too wonderful to think about. What will the weather be like when I am there?Travel Agent: I have been checking the Internet for you and the weather is going to be perfect.not too hot, and not too cold. You may want to pack a light jacket for the evenings along the beach. Ann: what about money?Travel agent: you should exchange your money before you leave so that you have money to spend should you need anything.Ann: what will I do while I am there for two weeks?Travel Agent: Oh, there is a great deal to do there. The beaches are lovely, there are some hikes along the beach, you can bicycle around a lake there, you can visit some museums.you will have plenty to keep you busy for the two weeks you are there. I wouldnt worry about having things to do. You will be kept very busy with the tour group. Ann: thank you so much.i just cant tell you how excited I am for my first vacation.Narrator: Upon arriving at the hotel, Ann immediately went to her hotel room to change into her best dress for dinner. She was so eager to meet new friends and try out her English. After showering, Ann went to her handbag no money her Spanish money was gone! She checked her luggage no sign of her Spanish money. Ann was heartsick. At the bottom of her purse, she found a few small coins of British money. Ann: whatever will I do for two weeks? This is unthinkable. What should I do? First, I must go to the bank and exchange my pound notes for Spanish lira. Narrator: on her way home from the bank, Ann stopped in a little market, where she bought oranges, some bread, and some apples. She knew that the breakfasts were all included in the price of the hotel, so she would eat breakfast in the hotel, then the bread, apples, cheese, and oranges would be for each night for her dinner. On the second day, Ann met a wonderful new friend, Jane.Ann: this is such a wonderful holiday. I hate to return home.Jane: yes, it is truly lovely to just sit on the beach and read a good book. What time would you like to have dinner this evening, Ann?Ann: Oh, I should tell you that my doctor told me before I came that I should not eat any Spanish food. So I will just eat each night some food that I have brought.Jane: But, surely, if you came to Spain for a holiday, you knew that there would be Spanish food. Wont your doctor allow you to eat any of it?Ann: Id better not. But, I will see you in the morning and we can walk along the beach together.Narrator: Ann returned to her room, where she ate just a few bites of the food she had purchased the first day. She ate just a little so the food would last for two weeks. Each night, she became more and more hungry.Jane: Ann, we all miss you each night at dinner. The hotel serves lots of different kinds of food. Why dont you come tonight and try some of their other food besides Spanish food?Ann: I dont think I better try it.Narrator: the two weeks passed very quickly, and soon it was Anns last night on vacation. She had had a wonderful time, but she had always been hungry. When the tour group had gone biking, she had stayed behind. When they went to museums, she had stayed at the pool reading a book. That last night, as she walked with her new friend, Jane, along the beach, Jane wondered again why Ann hadnt at least tried the food just once!Jane: we talk about you each night and wonder why you wont at least come down and try some of the food.Ann: very well, since this is our last night, I will tell you, Jane. On the first day I arrived, I opened my purse, and my money was gone! It was not in my luggage, and I
