How Client Network Drives are Mapped on XenApp 5.0 for Windows 2008 and Hotfix Rollup Pack 7 for XenApp 5 and Presentation Server 4.5 for Microsoft Windows Server 2003Document ID:CTX123992/ Created On: 2010-4-30 / Updated On: 2013-2-7Average Rating:(4 ratings)View products this document applies toSummaryThis article describes the default behavior of mapping client network drives in Hotfix Rollup Pack 07 for XenApp 5 and Presentation Server 4.5 for Microsoft Windows Server 2003, and XenApp 5.0 for Microsoft Windows Server 2008. Additionally, it also contains information about preventing automatic mapping of client drives.RequirementsYou require the following components: XenApp 5.0 for Microsoft Windows Server 64-bit or 32-bit Hotfix Rollup Pack 07 for XenApp 5 and Presentation Server 4.5 for Microsoft Windows Server 2003Note: This change started in PSE450R06W2K3015 or its equivalent.BackgroundWith XenApp 5.0 for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or Hotfix Rollup Pack 07 for XenApp 5 and Presentation Server 4.5 for Microsoft Windows Server 2003, all network drives mapped on a client computer are automatically mapped to drive letters in the XenApp session of the client. This is a change in behavior from earlier versions of XenApp and Presentation Server versions 4.0 and 4.5 up to PSE450R06W2K3015, which does not automatically map client network drives.Applying Hotfix Rollup Pack 1 for Citrix XenApp 5.0 for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 reverts the behavior. Therefore, client network drives are not mapped automatically by default.Policies are available to change this behavior.ProcedureTo prevent the automatic mapping of client network drives, complete one of the following procedures: Preventing Automatic Mapping of Client Drives in XenApp 5.0 by Installing Hotfix Rollup Pack 1 Preventing Automatic Mapping of Client Drives by Configuring PoliciesPreventing Automatic Mapping of Client Drives in XenApp 5.0 by Installing Hotfix Rollup Pack 1To prevent automatic mapping of client drives in XenApp 5.0 for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 64-bit or 32-bit, complete the following procedure:1. Download the Hotfix Rollup Pack 1from one of the following resources: For 64 bit edition - CTX125414 -Hotfix Rollup Pack 1 for Citrix XenApp 5.0 for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 32-bit Edition For 32 bit edition - CTX125419 -Hotfix Rollup Pack 1 for Citrix XenApp 5.0 for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 64-bit Edition2. Install the Hotfix Rollup 1.After installing the Hotfix Rollup Pack 01 for XenApp 5.0 for 2008, the client network drives are not automatically mapped.Caution! This fix requires you to edit the registry. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it.Note: If it is a requirement to automatically map all client mapped network drives after applying Hotfix Rollup Pack 01 for XenApp 5.0 for 2008, create the following registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesCdmParametersType: REG_DWORDName: AutoMapClientNetworkDriversData: 1From XAE500W2K8X64026#201714Preventing Automatic Mapping of Client Drives by Configuring PoliciesIn either XenApp versions, XenApp 5.0 and Presentation Server 4.5 for Windows Server 2003, regardless of hotfix patch installed, you can configure a policy to disable mapping all client network drives. The policy effectively prevents the automatic and manual mapping of all client network drives by using Explorer, command line, a logon script, and so on.There is no registry setting available to toggle the automatic mapping behavior. Therefore, you can modify the default behavior by using one of the policies.Note: If you enable the policy you cannot map a clients network drives in the XenApp session.1. Navigate to HDX Plug-n-Play Client Resources Drives Mappings.Note: In XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2008 the policy path is Client Devices Resources Drives Mappings.2. Set the Mappings option toEnabled.3. SelectTurn off Remote drives, as shown in the following screen shot:4. Apply the policy as required. In either of the XenApp versions, regardless of the hotfix installed, there might be a need to selectively map a single client Network drive because the preceding policy either allows all client network drives or noclient network drives. You can set the Mappings option in the preceding policy toNot Configuredand configure the following policy to allow for the mapping of selected client drives using Windows Explorer, command line, a logon script, and so on.Note: With the following policy enabled, client local drives are also not automatically mapped and if needed in the session must be mapped using Windows Explorer, command line, a logon script, and so on.1. Navigate toHDX Plug-n-PlayClient ResourcesDrivesConnection.Note: In XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2008 the policy path isClient DevicesResourcesDrivesConnection.2. Set the Connection option toEnabled.3. SelectDo Not Connect Client Drives at Logon, as shown in the following screen shot:More InformationCTX127614 -Differences in Client Drive M
