Love and Marriage -the movie review of Pride and Prejudice Several days ago, I watched movie Pride and Prejudice. It was directed by Joe Wright and hit the big screen in 2005. Though the movie is not very hot today, I think its thesis and characters are wonderful and attractive. So I would like to introduce it to you. This movie is an adaptation of Jane Austen1793 novel of the same name. The story is set in the Britain in early nineteenth century. Under the social background at that time, marriage was the only way for women to gain social status and social recognition. So the Hertfordshires Mrs.Bennet, who had five daughters to get married, was worrying about her daughters marriages all the time. Story began when a rich and handsome gentleman Mr.Bingley came to Hertfordshire with his friend Mr.Darcy, who was born in a rich noble family, too. Love was soon in the air between Mrs.Bennets eldest daughter Jane and Bingley, while the second daughter Elizabeth had a prejudice against Darcy. But after experiencing many things, Bingley expressed his love bravely and married Jane, and Elizabeth saw the kindness in Darcys heart and fell in love with Darcy . They both led a happy life after all. After watching the movie, I can not stop thinking the movies view on marriage, which is the most important thesis it conveys. There are five marriage patterns being shown in the movie: the marriage of tradition, the marriage of material, the marriage of lust, the marriage of love and the marriage of spiritual foundation. The youngest Kitty, who was naive and wild, was cheated by the good looks of Wickham and ran away with him. Her behavior nearly rained the reputation of her family. While, Elizabeths intimate friend Charlotte, one of several children of a former tradesman, chose to marry a pompous and narrow-minded man, because he would inherit the estate of Longbourn upon Mr. Bennets death. She knew clearly that there was no love between them, but she finally gave up her dream of love for the sake of security and status. It is hard to comment whether the realistic and materialistic choice of Charlotte is right or not, for money and social status are important at all time, but we can clearly see the shallowness and paleness in their marriage. There is no denying that material is the basic factor of marriage, but it is not the only one. The sense of identity and spiritual foundation are the promises of a happy marriage. The marriage of Jane and Bingley was based on mutual loveBoth of them possessed many common virtues. They were good-tempered and modest. They shared a mutual understanding and always thought best of others. But they both had the same shortcomings. They were easy to be influenced by others and its the potential problems in their marriage. Among the marriage patterns in the movie, the marriage of Elizabeth and Darcy is obviously an ideal one. They overcame the differences in their economic and social status . Both of them were sensible and determined. At first, there were some misunderstandings and Elizabeth disliked the haughty Darcy. But after Darcy saved her little sister and told her the true face of the Wickham, a gambler who lied to Elizabeth that Darcy took away the legacy which belonged to him, she finally changed her mind. And that is how pride gives way to sincerity and prejudice is replaced by love. It is fantastic to see so many types of marriage in one movie. It is just like you have experienced them and you will have a more clear mind on it.Beside the thought-provoking thesis, the movie also creates many vivid characters. Mrs.Bennet, the mother of five daughters, is shallow and foolish, talking endlessly about how to marry off her daughters. Although five daughters grow up in the same environment, they have different characteristics. The eldest daughter, Jane, is beautiful, innocent and kind. The second eldest daughter, Elizabeth, is a clever and open-minded girl. And Mary is a little bookish, while Kitty and Lydia are immature and wild. And Mr.Bingley and Mr.Darcy represent two type of young man. Bingley was cordial and simple and is easy to approach and constant in love, just like a young man should be. While, Darcy is sensible and proud in some sense, but in the depth of his heart, there are kindness and loyaltyforlove. Compared with 1980s TV play Pride and Prejudice, Mr.Darcy in this movie is more accessible and somehow melancholy. I bet you will love him after watching the movie! This movie is a fairy tale for adults. Beautiful love, nice mate and happy marriage. Elizabeth and Darcy are lucky, they finally find their spiritual mates. This story can take us away from th
