Sometimes they try to remember a solution from the last time they had a similar problem. They often accept the opinions or ideas of other people. Other times they begin to act without thinking. They try to find a solution by trial and error. However, when all these methods fail, the person with a problem has to start analyzing. There are six stages in analyzing a problem. First the person must recognize that there is a problem. For example, Sams bicycle is broken, and he cannot read it to class as he usually does. Sam must see that there is a problem with his bicycle.Next the thinker must define the problem. Before Sam can repair his bicycle, he must find out the reason why it does not work. For instance, he must determine if the problem is with the gears, the brakes, or the frame. He must make his problem more specific. Now the person must look for information that will make the problem clearer and lead to possible solutions. For instance, suppose Sam decided that his bike does not work because there is something wrong with the gear wheels. At this time, he can look in his bicycle repair book and read about gears. He can talk to his friends at the bike shop. He can look at his gears carefully. After studying the problem, the person should have several suggestions for a possible solution. Take Sam as an illustration. His suggestions might be: put oil on the gear wheels; buy new gear wheels and replace the old ones; tighten or loosen the gear wheels. Eventually one suggestion seems to be the solution to the problem. Sometimes the final idea comes very suddenly because the thinker suddenly sees something new or sees something in a new way. Sam, for example, suddenly sees that there is a piece of chewing gum between the gear wheels. He immediately realizes the solution to his problem: he must clean the gear wheels. Finally the solution is tested. Sam cleans the gear wheels and finds that afterwards his bicycle works perfectly. In short , he has solved the problem.29. What is the best title for this passage?A. Six Stages for Repairing Sams Bicycle B. Possible Ways to Problem-solvingC. Necessities of Problem Analysis D. Suggestions for Analyzing a Problem30. The promoters of products say they can shape the legs, slim the face, smooth wrinkles, or in some other way add to beauty or desirability.Often such products are nothing more than money-making things for their promoters. The results they produce are questionable, and some are dangerous to health. To understand how these products can be legally promoted to the public, it is necessary to understand something of the laws covering their regulation. If the product is a drug, FDA (Food Drug Administration) can require proof under the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act that it is safe and effective before it is put on the market. But if the product is a device, FDA has no authority to require premarketing proof of safety or effectiveness. If a product already on the market is a danger to health, FDA can request the producer or distributor to remove it from the market voluntarily, or it can take legal action, including seizure (查封) of the product. One notable case a few years ago involved an electrical device called the Relaxacisor, which had been sold for reducing the waistline. The Relaxacisor produced electrical shocks to the body through contact pads. FDA took legal action against the distributor to stop the sale of the device on the grounds that was dangerous to health and life.Obviously, most of the devices on the market have never been the subject of court proceedings (法律诉讼), and new devices appear continually, Before buying, it is up to the consumer to judge the safety or effectiveness of such items.49. It can be inferred that ads mentioned in the text are_.A. objective B. costly C. unbelievable D. illegal50. The Relaxacisor is mentioned as_.A. a product which was designed to produce electricityB. a product whose distributor was involved in a legal caseC. a successful advertisement of a beauty productD. an example of a quality beauty product51. The author intends to_.A. make consumers aware of the promoters false promiseB. show the weakness of the law on product safetyC. give advice on how to keep young and beautifulD. introduce the organization of FDA52. Which of the following is true according to the text?A. The court is in charge of removing dangerous products.B. New products are more likely to be questionable.C. The production of a device must be approved by FDA.D. The promoters usually just care about profits.【参考答案】49、CB 5152 AD 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。To get an extra 14 years of life, dont smoke, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, exercise regularly and drink alcohol in a proper amountThat is according to a study published this Monday in the Public Library of Science Medicine JournalAfter tracking more than 20,000 people aged 45 to 79 years in the United Kingdom from about 1993 to 2007, Kay-Tee Khaw of the University of Cambridge and his colleagues found that people who adopted these four healthy habits lived all average of 14 years longer than those who didnt“Weve known for a long time that these behaviors are good things to do, but weve not seen this benefit before, ” said Susan Jebb, head of Nutrition and Health at Britains Medical Research Council“The benefit was also seen regardless of whether or not people were fat and what social class they came from”Study participants(参与者)scored a point each for not smoking, regular physical activity, eating five servings of fruits and vegetables a day and moderate alcohol intakePublic health experts said they hoped the study would inspire governments to introduce policies helping people to adopt these changesBut because the study only observed people rather than testing specific changes, it would be impossible to conclude that people who suddenly adopted these healthy behaviors would surely gain 14 years“We cant say that any person could gain 14 years by doing these things, ”said DrTim Armstrong, a physical activity expert at the World Health Organization“The 14 years is an average across the population of whats theoretically(理论上地)possible”“Most people know that things like a good diet matter and that smoking isnt good for them, ” Susan Jebb said“We need to work on providing people with much more practical support to help them change”53. In order to answer this question, we must first examine whether people really want to preserve the historic feel of an area. Not all historical buildings are attractive. However, there may be other reasonsfor example, economic(经济的) reasonswhy they should be preserved. So, let us assume that historical buildings are both attractive and important to the majority of people. What should we do then if a new building is needed? In my view, new architectural styles can exist perfectly well alongside an older style. Indeed, there are many examples in my own hometown of Tours where modern designs have been placed very successfully next to old buildings. As long as the building in question is pleasing and does not dominate(影响) its surroundings too much, it often improves the attractiveness of the area. It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt(破坏) the area they are in, but the same can be said of some old buildings too. Yet people still speak against new buildings in historic areas. I think this is simply because people are naturally conservative(保守的) and do
