四川洪雅县2017高考英语九月阅读理解新编阅读理解训练 (2015安徽省黄山市高中毕业班第二次质检)If you are trying to achieve big goals in your life and work, the chances are that, from time to time, you hit rock bottom. Nothing works, nothing goes right, and nothing succeeds. At times like these, you may feel like throwing_in_the_towel. But before you do, read the following story. It might just change your mind. One day, a small business owner decided hed had enough. Enough of the endless work, enough of the lack of response, enough of the disturbing loneliness. He went into the woods to have one last talk to the wise man. “Mr. wise man,” he said. “Can you give me one good reason why I shouldnt give up?”The answer took him by surprise. “Look around you,” the wise man said. “Do you see the fern (蕨类植物)and the bamboo?” “Yes”, the man replied.“When I planted the fern and the bamboo, I took very good care of them. I gave them both equal amounts of food and water. I gave them sunlight in spring and protected them from the storms in autumn. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not give up on the bamboo. In the second year, the fern grew even better than before but nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not give up on the bamboo. In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not give up. In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. Still would not give up.” Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout(芽)came out from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small. But day by day the sprout grew. Within six months, the sprout had risen to a height of 100 feet. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.“Did you know, young man, that all this time you have been struggling, you have been growing? Grow the roots that you need to produce your fruit.” “Dont compare yourself to others. All things have different purposes, and different journeys. The bamboo has a different purpose from the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful. Yourtime will come. You will rise high.”The small business owner left the forest. And never went back.If nothing seems like it is happening in your life, despite all the work youre putting in, remember that youre probably growing roots not fruit. Stick with it. One day not far from now, therell be a great harvest.文章大意:这是哲理类文章阅读。文章通过竹子的故事告诉我们当面临困难的时候不要放弃。1The underlined phrase “throwing in the towel” in Paragraph l probably means _.Acrying outBshowing offCgiving upDrunning away答案:C词义猜测题。cry out大声哭泣;show off炫耀;give up放弃;run away跑掉。根据前文的Nothing works, nothing goes right, and nothing succeeds诸多困难,应该是想到放弃。故选C。2After the wise man planted the fern and the bamboo,_Ahe cared for the fern onlyBthey didnt receive any care from himChe gave up the bamboo in the fifth yearDthe bamboo seed never stopped growing答案:D推理判断题。根据文中the wise man所说的话“Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. Not a laptop. Nothing with a screen. The old-fashioned manual kind.Typewriters had pretty much gone the way of dodo birds quite some years before my granddaughter was born. But it was the typewriter used by a journalist in the movie “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl” that attracted her.Or maybe it was the way the typewriter was used. In the movie, Kit does old-fashioned journalism and writes stories that help right a wrong. In a challenging environment she keeps her wits and a strong sense of ethics (道德) about her. However, another reporter, Chuck Tatum in “Ace in the Hole” is totally different. He tells an editor, “If theres no news, Ill go out and bite a dog.” Later, referring to a sign in the newsroom that reads “Tell the Truth,” Tatum acknowledges some guilt. But, “Not enough to stop me on my way to the top.”In both movies, the journalists use typewriters. Its what they do with them that makes the difference. And today, its what we do with our hardware the journalism we produce that makes the difference.Typewriters have long since given way to laptops, camera phones and video phones. But here at Thomson Reuters (路透社), and in the media as a whole, the need for a strong sense of ethics has never been more necessary. To me, at the heart of ethics are the preservation (保持) of honesty, independence and freedom from prejudice. It means ethics and standards are compatible with innovation (革新). In fact, they have to go hand in hand. Theres a lot of room for innovation here, but theres no room for a Chuck Tatum, who would do anything to get to the top.In about 2020, my granddaughter will probably be using technology that hasnt been developed yet to work on her school “newspaper”. She wont be using her typewriter but she will, I hope, be using what shes learned from the journalists of this generation. Its up to us to set the right example.41. The passage may imply that _. A. Dodo birds are still living on the earth. B. Thomson Reuters will not employ a journalist like Chuck Tatum C. Typewriters are more popular to the journalists than laptops D. what matters is that journalists should use their new-fashioned hardware 【答案】B【解析】细节理解题。由“But here at Thomson Reuters (路透社), and in the media as a whole, the need for a strong sense of ethics has never been more necessary.”以及前面对Chuck Tatum不择手段获取目标的描述,可知路透社不会雇佣像Chuck Tatum一样的记者。故本题选B。44. The purpose of the passage is _.A. to advocate the sense of ethics in journalismB. to criticize the lack of ethics among journalistsC. to ask adults to set a good example for the youngD. to encourage more people to work on newspapers【答案】A【解析】细节理解题。由“It means ethics and standards are compatible with innovation (革新).”和“I hope, be using what shes learned from the journalists of this generation.”可知本文的目的是提倡新闻界的道德观。故选A。45. Who are the intended readers of the passage?A. People in general.B. Fans of American films.C. Children like his granddaughter.D. The journalists of this generation.【答案】D【解析】推理判断题。本文通过打字机引出两位不同新闻工作者的对比,说明道德观的重要性。所以它的目标读者应该是这一代的新闻工作者。阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。【2013界广东省深圳市一模】Once there was a man who lied to eat mangoes. One day he decided to get the sweetest mango from the very top of the tree. Mangoes which are exposed to the sun the most are the sweetest. So he climbed up to the top, where the branches were thin. He managed to pick up a few sweet reddish fruits, but, in an attempt to climb down, he slipped and started falling towards the ground. Fortunately, he caught the branch as he was falling and remained helplessly hanging on the tree. Then he started to call nearby villagers for help. They immediately came with a ladder and sticks, but could do little to help him. Then after some time one calm and thoughtful person arrived - a well-known sage who lived in a simple hut nearby. People were very curious to see what he would do, as he was famous in solving many peoples problems in the area and sometimes very complicated ones.He was silent for a minute and then picked up a stone and threw it at the hanging man. Everybody was surprised. The hanging mango lover started to shout: What are you doing?! Are you crazy? Do you want me to break my neck?” The sage was silent. Then he took another stone and threw it at the man. The man was very angry: “If I could just come down, I would show you!”Thats what everybody wanted - that he came down. But how? Now everybody was tense, as to what would happen next! Some wanted to chastise the sage, but they didnt. The sage picked another stone and threw it again at the man, even more forcefully. Now the man on the tree was enraged and developed a great determination to come down and take revenge.(复仇)He then used all his skill and strength and somehow reached the branches which were safe to start going down. And he made it! Everybody was amazed. However, the rescued man found the sage gone. He stood there, realizing that the man really sed him because he induced(引诱)him to try his best and s
