have rain But the water must somehow get back to the atmosphere Meteorologists call this the water cycle There are many stages in the water cycle Rain falls when water vapour in clouds condenses 凝结 Drops of water form and fall to the ground The water soaks into the ground and feeds streams and rivers A lot of rain falls into the sea The heat of the sun evaporates some of the water in the ground and in the rivers lakes and the sea It changes the liquid water into water vapour The vapour rises onto the air Water vapour is normally invisible On a very damp or humid day however you can sometimes see water vapour rising from a puddle 水坑 or pond in a mist 薄雾 above the water Water vapour also gets into the air from living things Trees and other plants take in water through 3 their roots and give off water vapour from their leaves People and land animals drink water and breathe out water vapour In all these ways the water returns to the air There it gathers to form clouds and condenses to form rain The rain falls to earth and the cycle starts again It continues even if snow or hail 冰雹 fall instead because both eventually melt to form water The amount of water vapour in the air depends on the Archives of Dermatology shows that smoking affects the skin all over the body even skin protected from the sun We examined non facial skin that was protected from the sun and found that the total number of packs of cigarettes smoked per day and the total years a person has smoked were linked with the amount of skin damage a person experienced Dr Yolanda Helfrich of the University of Michigan who led the study said in a statement In participants older than 65 years smokers had significantly more fine wrinkling than 4 nonsmokers Similar findings were seen in participants aged 45 to 65 years Helfrich s team added in their report The researchers tested 82 people smokers and nonsmokers taking pictures of the inner right arms They ranged in age from 22 to 91 and half were smokers Independent judges decided how wrinkled each person s skin was When skin is exposed to sunlight notably the face it becomes coarse wrinkled and discolored with a pale yellow tint Helfrich s t eam wrote Several previous studies have found that cigarette smoking contributes to premature 过早 的 skin aging as measured by facial wrinkles the study said but little has been done to measure the aging of skin not exposed to light The report did not discuss the mechanism involved but previous research has found that cigarette smoke among other things causes blood vessels 血管 beneath the skin to constrict 紧缩 reducing blood supply to the skin Smoking can also damage the connective tissue that supports both the skin and the internal organs 64 The best title for this passage would be A The danger of smoking one of the most important for you to understand is that you re in school all your life In fact your real education is just beginning I d like to pass on a few lessons that you didn t necessarily get in school If you ve been out of school for a few years or a lot of years they could still teach you something Develop relationships and keep networking If I had to name a single characteristic shared by all the truly successful people I ve met I d say it is the ability to create and nurture 培育 networks of contacts Start strengthening your relationships now so that they ll be in place when you really need them later In the classroom it was mostly about individual performance Success in real life requires relationships Set goals Ask any winner what the key to his or her success was and you ll hear four consistent messages vision determination persistence and setting goals If you don t set goals and determine where you re going how will you know when you get there Goals give you more than a reason to get up in the morning they are an incentive 激励 to keep you going all day Sense of humor I m a firm believer in using humor though not necessarily jokes A good sense of humor helps one understand the unconventional 非传统的 tolerate the unpleasant and overcome the unexpected There are plenty of times to be serious but I believe that keeping things light and comfortable encourages better teamwork Volunteer It might be hard to do a lot of volunteer work at first but people who help others on a regular basis have a healthier outlook on life 68 By saying your real education is just difficult situations in an easy and comfortable way C can show your difference from others and be able to succeed D should smile all the time and avoid being serious on any occasion 71 The target readers of this passage are probably A educational experts B people who want to change jobs C college graduates who have just left school D high school students who are still at school E I remember my math teacher Mr Young very well He stood out because the kids made fun of him He was missing one of his fingers and always pointed at students with his middle finger I was not very good at English and math No matter how hard I tried I just could not figure out why I did not understand what all the other kids found so easy to learn One day I was told that if I got one more E on my report card I would be taken to the big person for kids I tried really hard for weeks I just couldn t understand how to make different parts of members into whole things The day before report cards were to come out I knew that Mr Young would give me an E just like he always did I went to Mr Young and told him that the orphanage 孤儿院 was going to send me to the big person if I got another E on my report card He told me there was nothing he could do it would be unfair to the other kids if he gave me a better grade than I had actually 7 earned I smiled at him and said Mr Young do you know how the kids make fun of you
