顺手就朝三一学院的花圃指去 同行的伙伴的判断能力极强 但是 他在说话的时候 的确又带着片面的袒护 他带领我走进花园的时候声称 他认为这是全欧洲最漂亮迷人的小花圃 对于这一种这样大度地加以限制的肯定看法 我爽快地接纳了 而且立刻作了重复 三一学院的小花圃位于剑河岸边 曲曲折折 比较狭窄 一堵矮墙把它分成了两半 矮墙上长满了常春藤 在这个花圃中 还有一堵古墙 古墙的一面爬满了一种匍匐植物 它们成百上千条纠缠在一起 另一面是一簇七叶树 看上去无比奇特 这些七叶树很高大 半个花圃都为它们所占据了 它们那巨大的枝杈钻进地里 复又生长出了根 再长出来之后 其宏伟的气势不逊色于母干 这就更使人惊奇了 这一群壮丽的七叶树在草地上横冲直撞 一直窜到了草坪中央 这是三一学院的小花圃最吸引人的特色之一 当然 剑桥留给人的印象最为长久的还是皇家学院的著名教堂 那是全英格兰最迷人的教堂 创造出崇高领域中的一切 这就是它竭力期盼创造出来的效果 这种努力取得了成功 借助于一种空灵典雅的设计 而创造出来了这种成功 因为刻意崇尚空灵典雅 起初这种设计差不多是作茧自缚 那种崇高常常还伴随有一种不愉悦和徘徊观望的神态 直到你足足欣赏了10分钟之后 你才会明白这座教堂正因为是英格兰最高贵的教堂之一 才未成为一座最美丽的教堂 这是一座主教堂 它无侧廊 无横厅 无圆柱 但是 作为一种弥补 却有那种漂亮纤细的成束的花窗棂沿墙而上 在房顶上伸展 拐弯 汇合 这样一来 教堂的简朴仿佛反而更显得华美无比了 在一个周末的清晨 我在这个教堂中逗留了一刻钟之久 当时没有做弥撒 然而 在那将教堂分成两半的大屏风背后的舞台上 唱诗班的男孩们正在那儿排练 为午后的礼拜仪式作准备 动听的童音汇合在一块 直朝那华丽的拱顶冲去 歌声在半空中悬浮着 回旋着 伸展着 然后 宛如一枚燃尽了的烟火般 渐渐变弱
