My interests in this issue stems from the frequent engagements with Taiwanese merchants, who made a great contribution to the prosperity of my hometown city of Dongguan, when I was still a boy. I was deeply attracted by the unique social conditions and beautiful scenery of the island. Ever since high school I had been paying close attention to Taiwans development as well as her relation with mainland China; however I had never been to Taiwan due to obvious reasons. The NCCU as the center of social science studies in Taiwan has long been famous for its insightful study of Taiwans political, economic and social conditions.
