Course ObjectivesThis unit provides foundations for the application of management knowledge in the work environment. It explain the principles of individual and group behavior in organizations; Apply to the study of management and organizations a wide range of requisite professional skills including critical and analytical thinking, a capacity to question and challenge existing frameworks and ideas, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a team by case studies and practical activities, discuss a wide range of new managerial practices in organizations. The students should learn to give presentation in front of the class and to write a critical literature review and a report on group activities. It provides the students with the ideas of how to improve the organizational performance.4. Final examination 50%Total100%In order to pass the course, students must achieve at least a weighted average point of 60. a. Group Informative Presentation (Infomercial)Group Infomercial is a presentation/performance sales pitch to the audience that aims to generate interest and desire to learn more about a topic or an issue. Infomercials are presented and/or performed as a team. The infomercial topic would be selected by the students from the chapter that they are most interested in. The presentation/performance must be given before the chapter is introduced by the lecturer. Infomercials are evaluated based on the 1) content, 2) delivery, and 3) entertainment components.b. Group organisation research projectThe students are required to form into groups of three to six students. In week ten, each team must submit a written report of 2,500 words (+ or 10%) at 12-point font with 1.5 line spacing format, exclusive of attachments (appendices and exhibits). In the report, the students shall analyze an OB-related issue within a real organisation. Students have a free choice of any topic from the 10 chapters in the textbook. An example topic can be the motivation approach in a local bank. The marking scheme for the report is attached at the end of this description.They are required to quote second-hand information from sources such as academic journals, business magazines, text books, or company website. Primary (first-hand) research such as a field study and/or interview and /or questionnaire is encouraged.Students must critically analyse at least 5 academic articles in the literature review part.In week nine or week ten, each group has to do a formal PowerPoint presentation on the report.The students should work closely with the tutor to complete the project according to the following schedule:Week 1Form the team;conduct preliminary research; finish company selectionWeek 2-3Conduct preliminary research; finish topic selection; develop research planWeek 4-8Conduct major research; write up the reportWeek9-10Give presentation; submit reportUnless there are satisfactory written reasons provided to the tutor, marks for all written reports submitted late will be deducted at the rate of 2 marks (or 10%) per working day after the scheduled class.c. Final ExamThe final exam will be held during the formal examination period. The duration of the exam is 2 hours. The final exam covers the entire course (all lectures and tutorials) and is composed of a variety of question types i.e. multiple choices, short answer questions and case study.6. Methodology 2 The information gathering method is appropriate. Enable the reader to establish the validity and reliability of the material. Findings and Analysis 5 Presented in a logical order. Facts and figures are presented clearly and accurately. Theories are applied appropriately in explaining or solving the research problem. Each main points and opinions are well supported.Recommendations 3 Flow naturally from the findings. Reflect a sound analysis of the material. All the conclusions are supported. No other new information been introduced. Conclusions Listed in an order corresponding to conclusions. Clear, appropriate and practical.
