The next president also is likely to face a divided Congress. Once the name of the next president comes to light, the deeper questions are sure to remain: Why is the country so polarized after decades of social progress? And, if the election is as close as projected, how can the man who occupies the White House for the next four years bridge the two parties, Republic and Democratic, and get critical public business done?.“In the eyes of the world, we are facing a governance crisis,” said William Galston, a former adviser to President Bill Clinton who has spent the last seven years studying the nations polarization. Both Obama and Romney, perhaps reflecting the hard path ahead, have softened their voice recently, suggesting they are prepared to pursue a more comfortable path if elected. After running as “severely conservative, Romney in the closing days of the general election campaign has promised to work in bipartisan fashion in Washington and cut deals with Democrats on big issues. He mentioned his worked in Massachusetts, saying at a campaign stop in New Hampshire “That kind of relationship between the tow parties finally has to be brought to Washington, and I will.” 61. C. Romney got along well with the Democratic in Massachusetts. D. Romney got along well with the Republic in Massachusetts.BI hate the question but have to ask: What am I?I was raised Jewish, but I dont practice the faith. I dont consider myself an atheist(无神论者), nor am I agnostic(不可知论者). I dont believe in past lives and reincarnation(转世), and yet, I think my existence has some sort of higher meaning. I believe that life is too great a thing to be experienced only on a physical level. So again I ask: What am I?For me, organized religion presents too many rules that limit personal expression and reduce theimportanceof humans. A blog argues that the “Im spiritual but not religious” movement is unacceptable because it avoids answering basic questions, such as whether or not God exists. I disagree. Its but a more free way of appreciating the interconnectivity between humans and nature. If I wanted to live a more spiritual lifestyle, I would start meditating(沉思), practice yoga, and read Eastern philosophical(哲学的) texts. But whats the difference between Eastern and Western philosophy? .So what am I?Between my religious parents and yoga friends, I feel misunderstood. That I am neither religious nor common spiritual, doesnt mean I dont have beliefs. And it doesnt mean theyre not important because I cant name their beliefs.Whether or not you enjoyed P.T. AndersonsThe Master, consider the following quote from the film: “If you figure out a way to live without a master, any master, be sure to let the rest of us know, for you would be the first in the history of the world.” 66. The best title for the passage is _.A. What am I? B. My religious parents.C. My crazy friends. D. The Master 6 7. From the passage we know that_.A. the writer is religious. B. the writer is spiritual.C. the writer has his own beliefs. D. the writer has no beliefs. 68. The author thinks _. A. God is mighty.B. His life is more important than any body elses.C. Life itself is too meaningful to be experienced on a physical level.D. Others are not important because he cant name their beliefs. 69. From the fifth paragraph we know _.A. the author lives a spiritual life.B. the author starts to meditate.C. the author reads Eastern philosophical texts.D. the author hasnt done any of the things in A、B and C. 70. The authors belief is _.A. no one should be religious.B. everyone is the master of himself and his lifestyle.C. everyone should be spiritual.D. P.T. Anderson is the master. C I love my iphoneit makes it possible for me to go anywhere with the little connection to the larger world. I also cant live without my laptop,as it has all of my writing and thoughts .Despite this love of technology ,I know that there are times when I need to move away from these machines and communicate with others in person. I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas .Because I want students to thoroughly study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom ,I have a rule no laptop ,iPads ,phones ,etc .When my rules were told in advance of the class, some of them were not happy . Most students assume that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology . Theres a bit of truth to that. Some students assume that I am anti-technology . Thats not true at all . I love technology and try to keep up with it so I can relate to my students. The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversions and truly engage complex ideas. Interruptions by technology often break concentration and cause too much dependence on outside information for ideas . I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas. I want them to push each other to think in their own way and make connections between the course, the material and the class discussion .Ive been using this teaching style in my history class for years and the evaluations reflect student satisfaction with the environment that I create .Students realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom . It doesnt mean I wont change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change ,Im sticking to my plan. A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up.71.The author loves technology because he could _.A.relate to his students B. use his iphone well.C. truly communicate with others D. teach the students more.72.Some of the students in the history class were unhappy with_A. the course material B. others misuse of technology C. the authors class regulations D. discussion topics 73.T
