It is an important tool in your job-hunting. A good resume can mean employment, success and a sense of self-worth. Before you write your resume, take some time to know yourself and your goals, strengths and weaknesses. Never underestimate the importance of good grammar, accurate spelling and punctuation in your resume. Proofread it carefully several times, do remember that your resume is what represents you to employers. Because an employer typically spends two minutes or less reading a resume, you have very little time to explain why you are the best person for the job. You must selectively choose what to say, how to say it, and how to arrange it on the page so that it can be read quickly but thoroughly. To save space and to emphasize what you have accomplished, use these stylistic techniques: 1) omit pronouns referring to yourself, 2) begin sentences with action verbs, and 3) select adjectives carefully. The standard information found in a winning resume includes:IdentificationYour objective is to provide information that will allow the interviewer to reach you. Include your name, current address and the telephone number in this section. To ensure that the interviewer can quickly locate this information, center it on the page. Objective In this section, state your job objectivethe job you want. The interviewer can see immediately whether the job you are seeking matches the one they offer. Therefore, your objective must be specific enough to be meaningful.Summary of achievements In this section, summarize your major qualifications and achievements so that the employer know what your want and why they would want to hire you.Qualifications Usually, qualifications stem from your education, honors and achievements, and work experience. Personal information Major categories of personal information include interests, hobbies, avocations, and willingness to relocate.Samples AnalysisSample 1 Zhang Fan94 Yanan Road, Zhongshan District, Dalian, 116001Tel:12345678E-mail: Job Objective: To teach Intermediate English with emphasis on speaking and listeningEducation 2010.092010. 09, New York University New York, the U.S. Masters Degree in British Literature 2006.092010.07 Dalian University of Foreign Languages Dalian, China Bachelors Degree in English Literature and LinguisticsMajor CoursesPhonology, Semantics, Syntax, Pragmatics, Historical Comparative Linguistics,Psychological Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics, Advanced Interpretation, Advanced Writing, An Introduction to Literature, etc.Related Experience 2009present Teach College English Intensive Reading: Book 3 and Book 4, Dalian University of TechnologyCertificates TEM-8 Certificate for English Majors Certificate for service in the APEC Summit, 2009 Certificate for Postgraduate ScholarshipAchievementsOn the Deans List for seven semesters (GPA 4.6 or better)Qualifications Good interpersonal skills; good presentation skills; proficiency at software applicationsSample 2Wang ZhenAddress: 943 Renmin Avenue, ChangchunPhone: 12345678Gender: MaleAge: 40Job Objective: To secure a senior management position in a multinational companyQualifications l 15-year experience in a variety of management situations, in the public and private sectorsl Excellent oral and writing skillsl Able to work effectively with a wide range of peoplel Conversant with information technology systemsl Experienced in team building and consensus decision-makingl Familiar with current trends in management thinkingl Capable of strict budget controlWorking Experience2008 present Manager, DOL Career Servicel Develop and maintain an efficient career counseling and consultancy service, provide information and advice to user groups.l Manage staff, budgets, program development, planning and coordination, consultancy, communication and reporting.l Contribute to national policy development and extension of services to new client groups.2005 2008 Executive Officer, ABC Law Societyl Managed a team of seven and a budget of $500,000l Arranged continuing legal education for 150 members.l Directed regional and national in-service training courses.l Developed a marketing plan for legal service which was adopted by 67 firms nationwide.2002-2005 Innovation Manager, Peace Marketing Co.
