Perfume is not exempt (被免除的)from import duty.(税)9.But it isnt perfume, I said. Its hair gel.(凝胶)Then I added with a smile, Its a strange mixture (混合物)I make myself.10.The Officer unscrewed (拧开)the cap ,put the bottle to his nostrils.(鼻孔) 11.A few minutes later, I was able to hurry away with precious chalk (粉笔)marks on my baggage.(行李)Lesson12 Life on a desert island 荒岛生活1.Most of us have formed an unrealistic (不真实的)picture of life on a desert island. 2.We sometimes imagine a desert island to be a sort of paradise (天堂)where the sun always shines.3.The other side of the picture is quite the opposite. Life on a desert island is wretched.(可怜的) 4.You either starve (挨饿)to death or live like Robinson Crusoe, waiting for a boat which never comes. 5.Perhaps there is an element (成分)of truth in both these pictures, but few of us have had the opportunity (机会)to find out.6.Two men who recently spent five days on a coral (珊瑚)island wished they had stayed there longer. 7.They quickly loaded a small rubber dinghy (救生筏)with food, matches, and tins of beer and rowed for a few miles across the Caribbean until they arrived at a tiny coral island. 8.As they had brought a spear gun (捕鱼枪)with them, they had plenty to eat. 9.When a passing tanker (游轮)rescued them five days later, both men were genuinely (由衷地)sorry that they had to leave.Lesson13 “Its only me” 别怕,是我1.She intended to dress up as a ghost and as she had made her costume (化妆服)the night before, she was impatient to try it on.2.Though the costume consisted (由构成)only of a sheet,(被单) it was very effective.
