Readers Choice Awards 2019: TVs and Computer MonitorsPicking a big screen, be it for the living room or for major computing and gaming, is a snap if you stick with the brands picked by our readers as the best. Which brand will give you a great experience for years to come, and which ones should you avoid, no matter what the bargain price?PCMag readers are here to help. In this months Readers Choice survey, we asked you to rate your satisfaction with the TVs and monitors you use. Let our readers experiences inform your choice this bargain-hunting season.TVs 2019Sony(Overall and 4K)Readers are very happy with their Sony TVs, especially for their picture quality and reliability, earning the company its third HDTV Readers Choice Award in the last four years and its second Readers Choice for 4K televisions in the last three years.TCL(Overall)TCL earns its second straight Readers Choice Award in 2019. The company continues to show that affordable doesnt have to mean cheap. Respondents are thrilled with how much TV they get for their dollar, and no other brand matches TCLs Roku-based smart TV experience.SonyandTCLrepresent opposite ends of the HDTV spectrum. Sony is known for pricey, high-end sets, while TCL is noted for affordable smart TVs. Last year, the two companies had the highest overall satisfaction scores in our survey, tied with excellent ratings of 8.9 on a scale from 0 (extremely dissatisfied) to 10 (extremely satisfied). We gave our Readers Choice nod to TCL, however, because it had a higher rating for likelihood to recommend, another very important measure of customer satisfaction.This year, Sony and TCL once again are at the top of the satisfaction ratings, and the winner is too close to call. Thus we give our Readers Choice Award for HDTVs to both companies. Sony maintained its overall satisfaction rating of 8.9, while TCL slipped slightly to 8.8. However, TCL once again had the highest likelihood to recommend rating (8.9). Sony, LG, and Samsung were slightly behind, tied with recommendation ratings of 8.7still great scores. LG and Samsung also have good overall satisfaction ratings. You wont go wrong with any of those brands.Sony received the highest ratings in our survey for satisfaction with picture quality (9.1, tied with LG), 4K resolution (9.3), and high dynamic range (9.2). When asked to comment on their ratings, many of our respondents highlighted the picture quality, using words like excellent, fantastic, and amazing. However, Sonys high overall satisfaction ratings arent only about image quality. The company also received the highest ratings for satisfaction with technical support (8.2) and satisfaction with sound (7.9). (Note that the satisfaction with sound was only asked of respondents who use the TVs built-in speakers, thus the relatively low number.) The only area where Sony suffered was in cost/value, where its rating of 8.1 was the lowest among the eight brands rated.TCL topped the ratings in several areas, not surprisingly receiving its highest rating for satisfaction with cost/value (9.4). Only Best Buys Insignia brand (9.0) also received a 9.0 or higher. However, TCL customers appreciate the companys TVs for far more than value. TCL also had the highest ratings in the survey for satisfaction with ease of setup (9.0) and ease of use (9.0). Its televisions come with integrated Roku TV; it got top marks in satisfaction with smart TV capabilities (8.9). Several respondents noted that their TCL TVs with Roku allowed them to discontinue cable TV service. One respondent referred to the TCLs Roku as the cord cutters best friend.Sony also receives our Readers Choice Award for4K TVs. In addition to the aforementioned highest rating for satisfaction with 4K resolution, Sony also had the highest rating among 4K TVs for overall satisfaction (9.2), likelihood to recommend (9.1, tied with TCL), satisfaction with picture quality (9.4), reliability (9.3, tied with LG and TCL), tech support (8.4), and sound quality (8.2). LG (9.3) and Samsung (9.0) also received ratings of 9.0 or higher for satisfaction with picture quality, and LG earned marks of 9.1 for satisfaction with 4K resolution and 9.0 for satisfaction with HDR.See all of our survey results for TVs in 2019Computer Monitors 2019ViewSonicOur readers are generally very happy with their monitors, but ViewSonic catapulted to the top of our survey rankings this year with excellent scores across the board.After a two-year hiatus,ViewSonicis back on top with satisfaction ratings that are much improved from last year, enough to set it apart from the competition. ViewSonic last won the PCMag Readers Choice Award for monitors in 2016. Our survey respondents gave ViewSonic an overall satisfaction rating of 9.3, a big improvement from last years still-solid 8.7.Asus, Dell, and Samsung followed with overall satisfaction ratings of 9.0, which are also excellent. In fact, even the companies with the lowest marks for overall satisfaction, HP and LG, still did quite well, at 8.8.Arguably the most important aspect of a computer monitor is picture quality. All of the companies in our analysis received ratings of 9.0 or better, which is very impressive, but ViewSonic comes out on top with a score of 9.4 for satisfaction with picture quality. Samsung received the second highest rating at 9.2.As with HDTVs, you can find excellent bargains on huge computer monitors these days. Samsung led the pack in satisfaction with cost/value at 8.9, but again, all of th
