Picasso won a prize when he was only fifteen. When Picasso was over ninety, he still took up his paints and brushes to start a new picture as if he were seeing things for the first time. Thats why we have called him the youngest painter. Young people are always trying new things and new ways of doing things. No one could be sure what kind of picture he would produce. If he had painted a picture of you it might have looked exactly like you. Or it might have been all lines, squares, circles and strangecolored shapes.Picasso was trying to paint what he saw with his mind as well as with his eyes. He painted the side of the face as well as the front. He may have painted it flat, as though it had no depth.Picasso painted a picture of Gertrude Stein in 1906. She visited the painters studio eighty or ninety times while he painted her picture. Then one day Picasso wiped out the painted head on which he had worked for so long and went away for the summer. When he returned he went at once to the unfinished picture. Quickly he finished the face from memory. He could see the womans face more clearly in his mind than he could see it when she sat in the studio in front of him.For several years of his depression, he painted people from the poorer parts of the city. His colors got darker. Most of these pictures were painted in shades of blue and showed very clearly what the artist saw and felt. Picasso did not have to wait long for success. As he began to sell his pictures and to become recognized as a painter his pictures took on a warmer look. At the same time he began to paint with more and more freedom and independence. 1Why was Picasso considered as the youngest painter?AHe became famous at an early age.BHe kept painting at his advanced age.CHe never stopped creating.DHe gained a prize as the youngest painter. 2Which of the following can best describe Picassos paintings?AVivid.BNaturalistic.CRidiculous. But, at nearly 500 years of age, time_is_catching_up_with_the_Mona_Lisa.The health of the famous picture, painted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1505, is getting worse by the year, according to the Louvre museum (卢浮宫博物馆) where it is housed.“The thin, wooden panel on which the Mona Lisa is painted in oil has changed shape since experts checked it two years ago,”the museum said. Visitors have noticed the changes but repairing the worlds most famous painting is not easy. Experts are not sure about the materials the Italian artist used and their current chemical state.Nearly 6 million people go to see the Mona Lisa every year, many attracted by the mystery of her smile.“It is very interesting that when youre not looking at her, she seems to be smiling, and then you look at her and she stops,”said Professor Margaret Livingstone of Harvard University.“Its because direct vision (视觉) is excellent at picking up details, but less suited to looking at shadows. Da Vinci painted the smile in shadows.”However, the actual history of the Mona Lisa is just as mysterious as the smile. Da Vinci himself loved it so much that he always carried it with him, until it was eventually sold to Frances King Francis in 1519.In 1911, the painting was stolen from the Louvre by a former employee, who took it out of the museum hidden under his coat. He said he planned to return it to Italy. The painting was sent back to France two years later.During World War , French hid the painting in small towns to keep it out of the hands of German forces.Like many old ladies, the Mona Lisa has some interesting stories to tell. 5The underlined sentence in the first paragraph means the Mona Lisa _.Ais losing its valueBis being damaged after so many yearsCis getting more valuable with years passingDwill rot away解析:选B句意理解题。根据time is catching up with the Mona Lisa和第二段的第二句“The thin, wooden panel on which the Mona Lisa is painted in oil has changed shape since experts checked it two years ago,”说明这幅画现在也受到岁月的侵袭,也有了破损。 6Experts havent any repairs on the Mona Lisa because _.Ait is now in a poor chemical stateBthey dont know how to replace the wooden panelCthey dont have the materials Da Vinci usedDthey are afraid it will be done further damage解析:选D推理判断题。根据第二段“Visitors have noticed .chemical state.” 7The smile of the Mona Lisa can only be seen_.Aby indirect visionBat a distanceCby direct vision Din shadows解析:选A细节理解题。根据第三段“when youre not looking at her, she seems to be smiling, and then you look at her and she stops”可知在不直视的情况下才能看到她的微笑。故A正确。8From the last paragraph, we can infer that _.Amany interesting stories have been written about the Mona LisaBpeople are interested in the stories about the Mona LisaCsome mysteries still remain to be solved about the Mona LisaDMany more stories will be told about the Mona Lisa解析:选C推理判断题。根据本句“Like many old ladies, the Mona Lisa has some interesting stories to tell.” While your teen may get by OK by waiting until the last possible second to complete his high school science experiment or his math project, procrastination (拖延症) can be a big problem later in life.Your teens future boss or college professors arent likely to accept late work or the excuses that accompany delayed projects._1_ That means managing his time wisely without requiring constant reminders or assistance from you to get his work done. Here are some steps you can take to teach your teen essential time management skills:_2_ If youre always running late or you miss a lot of deadlines, your teen will follow suit.Practice managing your own time wisely and show your teen that you can accomplish the most important tasks in any given day.Encourage your teen to write down his schedule.Your teens time may easily get taken up with video games or social media if hes not careful.Teach him to schedule his day so he can set aside time for chores, homework, and other responsibilities._3_ Then, time doesnt idly pass without feeling like he hasnt done anything fun.Help your teen prioritize (划分优先顺序) activities._4_ A basketball game and birthday party may coincide.Talk to your teen about how to prioritize activities, based on his values and commitments.Avoid nagging (唠叨)It can be annoying to nag your teen or offer repeat reminders._5_ Set rules about your expectations and follow through with consequences when necessary. Then, your teen will learn to manage his time better in the future.AModel good time management habits.BEncourage h
