The Hidden Terror and the Totem in “Alice in Wonderland”When I was a child, I have read the story of Alice in Chinese. I still keep that book with me. Although it is a version with colorful illustrations, I did not enjoy reading it at that time. When I come to read it again as an adult, I find the reason some plot has aroused my terror as a child. Firstly, the terror born with human being is introduced at the beginning of the story. Alice jumped into the rabbit-hole out of curiosity. The process experienced by Alice in tunnel is similar to the process through which an infant is delivered to the world the similar tunnel, the similar darkness and the similar new clueless world. Secondly, identity crisis is shown to us in the story (But if Im not the same, the next question is, who in the world am I? Ah, thats the great puzzle!). Thirdly, social phobia can be seen in the story. Alice tried her best to be polite when she met Mouse (Alice thought this must21 be the right way of speaking to a mouse). As the result of omnipotence in his/her usual life, a child will feel powerless when the social communication is not under his/her control.For all the crises, Alice chose a way to solve them to remind herself that this world was not the real word which she always stayed in.
