Unit 6 Its raining江西教育学院10级英教专四 宋娟Background information: new lessonTarget Ss: Grade 7 SsLesson duration: 45Analysis of the teaching material1) This is the sixth unit of Book 2 used for Grade Seven students in middle school.2) The main topic of this unit is “weather”. 3) In this unit, students will learn to describe different weather. Such atopic is related to their daily life. And its very interesting and useful to students. So its helpful to raise their learning interests and improve their spoken English. Analysis of the students1) Easy to arouse their learning emotion. 2) Poor in cooperative learning skills. 3) Thinking ability of the image is strong, but the attention can be scattered easily.Analysis of the teaching goals1. Knowledge goals:1) Key vocabulary: rain, windy, cloudy, sunny, snow, weather, Moscow, Boston2) Target language: What is the weather like in + 地点 ?How is the weather in + 地点 ?Its rainy/sunny/windy/cloudy/snowy.2. Ability goals: Enable the students to talk about the weather.3. Moral goals:Learn to care about others.Protect our environment, because we only have one earth.Analysis of the important and difficult pointsImportant sentence patterns:What is the weather like in + 地点?How is the weather in + 地点?Its rainy/sunny/windy/cloudy/snowy.Anticipated difficulties: How to talk about the weather ? Solutions: Relevant exercises as shown in the teaching procedure are designed to help students to overcome difficulties. Teaching aids:PPT , the blackboard, some pictures.Analysis of the teaching methodsCentered on “task-based language teaching”, Ill give students some tasks and arrange many kinds of activities: make conversations, group activities, listening practice and guessing games. As we all know, the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to cultivate students abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson Ill mainly use “Communicative” teaching method, “Audio-visual” teaching method besides “Task-based” teaching method.Analysis of the learning methodsI request the students to study English independently and cooperatively. Each unit in Go for it contains pair work, group work and games. The students who sit at the same table and groups can make a discussion and learn from each other. It makes each student be relaxed. They neednt worry about making mistakes. It can arouse students to think and to say what they want to say. Study becomes more relaxed and pleased in this kind of environment.Analysis of the teaching procedureAltogether,there are 7 steps.Step 1 Warm up and lead in (5)Teacher activity1. Greetings2. Watch a video of weather report. It was reported by one of the students.3. Stick places and weather on the blackboard, then let student match them together according to the weather report.Student activity1.Watch and listen to the video carefully, then find out different weather in five places, including Toronto,Beijing,Shanghai,Boston and Moscow2. Match weather and places correctly.3. Answer questions and be familiar with the structure.Purpose1.Warm up the class atmosphere and make it lively.2. Activate the students, in this way, the students can be “open” to the input.3. Be familiar with the structure.Step 2 Presentation (19)Teacher activity 1. Ask the students to talk about the picture in 1a. 2. Let students read these new words and practice the structure: Whats the weather like in+ 地点?= Hows the weather in+ 地点? Its cloudy/windy/sunny/rainy /snowy. 3. Do the exercise 1a.Student activity 1. Read the new words after the teacher. 2. Repeat the dialogues. 3. Finish the exercise 1a.Purpose 1. Be familiar with new words. 2. Study the new structure “Whats the weather like in+ 地 点?= Hows the weather in+ 地点?Its cloudy/windy/sunny/rainy /snowy.Step 3 Pair work 1c (7)Teacher activityAsk the students to tell how the weather is in each pictureStudent activity Practice in pairs like:A: Whats the weather like in Picture b?B: Its sunny.A: Hows the weather in Picture c?B: Its snowing. PurposeThis activity will help students consolidate the knowledge and learn how to cooperate and communicate with others.Step 4 Listening (5)Pre-listeningWe cant neglect listening part as it is a very important skill. Then let students predicate before listening. It is a good way to students cause curiosity and the enthusiasm of participation. And its also an efficient way to improve their listening ability. While-listening1. Listen to 1b. Listen and write these city names in the boxes above.2. Try to imitate the pronunciation and intonation. Imitation is a good way to learn English well, especially for junior students.Post-listeningWrite these correct city names.PurposeThis task aims to help students learn to describe different weather in different places.Step 5 Lets chant! (5)Teacher activity Prepare a chant with three lines: Hows the weather in Dalian? Sunny, sunny, its sunny in Dalian. Hows the weather in Shanghai? Cloudy, cloudy, its cloudy in Shanghai. Hows the weather in Guangzhou? Rainy, rainy, its rainy in Guangzhou. Student activity Read the chant together and make chant one by one. Students n eed to change places and weather.Purpose1. This activity can active the atmosphere of class and train their communicative competence.2.
