Forms provide a window into your data, make your database look polished and professional, and help you enter data more accurately. This is the fifth course in a series that teaches beginners how to use Access 2010.,Course goals,Create a detail form. Think of forms as windows into your data that help users understand and work with that data.,Basic forms,Create forms for a new database,A form and two tables.,Lets take a quick look at what goes into a form:,Forms are made up of controls, such as text boxes, buttons, document tabs, and drop-down lists, grouped in a way that makes them easy to use and helps you get work done.,Basic forms,Create forms for a new database,A form and two tables.,The controls in the form are usually bound, or linked, to the tables or queries in your database but not always.,For example, a control that displays asset data is probably bound to either the Assets table, or to a query that retrieves asset data. In contrast, a form control that displays your corporate logo isnt bound to a table field; it just points to the image it displays.,Basic forms,Create forms for a new database,A form and two tables.,In addition to entering data, you can use forms in other ways. For example, you can create a form that asks for input, and then generates a custom report based on that input.,A quick look at form design,Create forms for a new database,Steps for designing a form.,You design forms in much the same way that you designed the tables for your asset-tracking database.,Start by listing the data that you want to enter or view, and then.,Decide on the controls you need in order to capture and work with your data. For example, if you need to enter or edit data, you use a text box.
