He made a decision that more laughter was needed to improve health and deal with the stress of modern living. In 1995, while writing an article for a health journal, Dr. Kataria discovered many modern scientific studies describing the benefits of laughter on the human mind and body. In particular, he was impressed by Norman Cousins book Anatomy of an Illness and the research work by Dr. Lee Berk. Then he began to fieldtest the effect of laughter on himself and others.Starting with just five people, on March 13, 1995, at a public park in his neighborhood, Dr. Kataria started the first laughter club. They laughed together in the park to the amusement of bystanders, and the small group quickly grew to more than 50 people within a few days. In the early meetings, they stood in a circle with one person in the center to tell a joke or a funny story. Everybody enjoyed themselves and felt good for the rest of the day. However, after two weeks, their jokes and stories ran out. Some complained that it would be better to discontinue the club than to continue without any jokes. Dr. Kataria asked the club members to give him one day to develop a breakthrough that would solve the problem. That night, Dr. Kataria reviewed his research and finally found the answer. Our body cannot differentiate between pretend and genuine laughter. In fact, both produced the same effect. The next morning, the results were amazing. For some, the makebelieve laughter quickly turned into real laughter. Soon the group was laughing like never before. The hearty laughter that followed lasted for almost ten minutes. This was the birth of Laughter Yoga. 1We can infer from Paragraph 2 that Madan Kataria .Aused to be seriousBwas a man of actionCfound his life stressfulDwas an expert in laughing解析:选B推理判断题。由第二段中的最后一句“Then he began to fieldtest the effect of laughter on himself and others.” 2After a short period of time, the club members .Adidnt know what to talk aboutBdoubted whether laughter would helpCcouldnt find any place to get togetherDshowed less interest in Dr. Katarias club解析:选A细节理解题。由第三段中的“after two weeks, their jokes and stories ran out . to continue without any jokes”可知,两周后他们的笑话和故事都讲完了,不知道该谈论些什么了,故选A项。3The underlined part “a breakthrough” refers to the discovery that .Apeople may laugh a lot after taking a new type of medicineBgenuine laughter works better than pretend laughterClaughing a lot is able to help us fight off illnessDpretend laughter is also helpful to our health解析:选D推理判断题。由最后一段中的“Our body cannot . produced the same effect.” 4What would be the best title for the text?ALaughter clubs in IndiaBBenefits of Laughter YogaCThe origin of Laughter YogaDLaughter the best medicine解析:选C标题归纳题。由文章最后的“This was the birth of Laughter Yoga.” Five biggest career mistakes young workers makeWhen you begin to dive into the working world, there are a few common mistakes you should try to avoid. 1 Whether its asking for a raise or just voicing an opinion, its important to stand up for yourself in the office. As long as you do it in a respectful and professional way, your colleagues will be impressed by your confidence.Goofing off (混日子)You may think no one is looking at what youre doing all day, but the fact is your computer screen can be seen by all who pass by. 2 Even though your boss may seem relaxed, hes not going to appreciate an employee who seems to care more about his friends status updates than his actual work.Dressing inappropriately 3 If you dress too casually, you could be sending the wrong message to your coworkers.Just because you have it doesnt mean the office is the place to wear it.If you want to be taken seriously, dress seriously.Being late for workYou could be the hardest worker in the office or do extra work at home, but if you are consistently late for work, you give off the impression that youre lazy. 4 Your professional reputation is a vital part of getting ahead in your industry and being late for work sounds unimportant, but could result in all your hard work being gradually ignored.Acting too confidentlyIt is a common issue with young professionals. It is sometimes hard for recent college graduates to change from topofthefoodchain seniors to professional “freshmen” 5 In addition, you must know your place in the company.ABeing afraid to speak upBTalking nervously and unprofessionallyCOne thing that can either help or hurt you is how you present yourself.DNow that you are out of the college, you must remember to be modest.ESometimes, it can be difficult to be taken seriously as a young professional.FSo its important to limit the amount of time you spend on nonworkrelated sites.GPeople notice who stays late and who comes in early and will form an opinion about you.1选A根据本空后的内容可知,在办公室里为自己说话很重要,而且以恭敬的和职业的方式表达自己的意见会给其他同事留下深刻的印象。 Kenneth Williams 1 (consider) one of the greatest British comedy actors of the twentieth century. His voice is his outstanding gift; it virtually defined him as a 2 (perform)Williams would often spend weeks deciding how a character should sound and this “voice” determined his approach to each role. 3 even after he had chosen his “voice”, he didnt always stick to it.In the middle of 4 single performance, he would sometimes change the tone or speed of his speech, for 5 (great) comic effect. While still a beginner, he felt he should be given the freedom to do as he wished on stage and often 6 (ignore) his directors instructions. This greatly annoyed some directors, who refused 7 (work) with him.Sometimes, he would completely ignore the script and make up his own lines during performance.Although he was proud of his ability to go “off scripts”, he became extremely angry if other actors tried to do the same, 8 (argue) that they were simply not good at it.Williams loved to make his audience laugh. When performing a scene 9 there were few laughs, he would often make up 10 own jokes, which always entertained the audience, but sometimes also ruined the scene.1is considered分析句子结构可知空格处作谓语,主语是Williams,和所填词consider之间是被动关系,所以用被动语态,be considered .
