文档简介
How Different Will Things Be 20 Years from Now?We asked readers to write in and tell us about their predictions for life in the future. Here are a few of their responses. AI dont think life will change a lot over the next 20 years. Many of todays problems such as poverty and war will still exist. I think more people will be living in even bigger cities than today. Fewer people will be living in the country. Climate change and pollution will be the most serious global problems, causing extreme weather and disasters.Li Ling, BeijingBWell be doing all our shopping online. I think ordinary shops are going to disappear completely and they will be replaced by on-line shopping malls. The process has already started with some city supermarkets taking on-line orders. Itll just become more widespread and well be able to buy anything, even clothes. I imagine being able to use my mobile phone to visit the clothes department of a virtual mall and order something which is exactly my size.Sharon, SydneyCFashion will still be important but therell be more varieties. Global fashion will be on the way out and it wont be trendy to wear the same as your friends; individualised clothes will be the in-thing. Therell also be a lot of intelligent clothes to choose fromclothes that will keep you warm when the weathers cold and which will keep you cool when its too hot.Kim, TokyoDIm sure they arent going to disappear for a long time yet. But I think they will change a lot in the next 20 years. Both students and teachers will rely on computers a lot more and there will be online libraries and resource centres. Students will still go to school but theyll spend less time in the classroom and more time working online from home. Internet evening classes will develop to give children extra help.Chantal, ParisEIm sure we wont be driving flying cars or personal helicopters. I think its more likely that well be walking and cycling around more. Oil is going to run out and cars are going to become too expensive to use. Also, air pollution will be a major problem in cities so well have to find other clean means of transport. The railways will develop and there will be a lot more very fast inter-city trains.Mike, New York FHopefully, scientists will find cures for AIDS and cancer. But I think the biggest advance will be in surgery. Doctors will be able to perform operations at a distance. Scientists will make huge progress in organ transplants. They will be able to grow body parts such as the heart, liver or lungs and replace damaged organs. Brain transplants wont be allowed but some scientists will be secretly experimenting with the technique.Brian, LondonDecide which paragraphs these sentences belong to. Fill in A, B, etc.1. There will be more trams and electric buses in cities. 2. Computers will enable teachers to work directly with individual students. 3. They will have special smart labels which the washing machine can read. 4. The population will still increase in developing countries. 5.
