One junior English learner who is not interested in English at the very beginning of learning English like a bird that its wings was wounded before it fly up to sky. Therefore, the first task for a English teacher is to stimulate students interest of English learning in the English teaching process. Against the background of new curriculum reform, it is especially important to put the development of students study interest on the first place. The author thinks that interest is not only the cause of learning motivation and the prerequisite to attract attention, but also the touchstone of our teaching effort. Thus, this paper presents the analysis about the definition of interest and significance of English learning, the necessity of developing students English learning interest and put forward opinions with a view to tacking this issue from five aspects. First, grasping the appropriate opportunities enliven the classroom atmosphere. Second, creating situations stimulate learning interest . Third, adopting various evaluations consolidate learning interest. Fourth, establishing a new relationship improves the learning interest between teachers and students. Fifth, conducting extensive, diverse English extracurricular activities arouse learning interest. Keywords: junior English student English teaching learning interest 摘要众所周知,兴趣是最好的老师。如果一开始学英语,学生就已经不感兴趣了,那就好像鸟儿还没有飞上蓝天就已经折断了翅膀一样。因此,教学过程中,我们的首要任务是激发他们学习英语的兴趣。在新课标改革的大好形势下,始终坚持把培养学生对英语的学习兴趣放在首位显得格外重要。兴趣不仅是学习动机的起因,是引起一切注意的先决条件,而且也是我们课堂实效的试金石。因此,本文对学习英语的重要性以及培养学生的学习兴趣的必要性进行了阐述,并且从五个方面给出了培养学生英语学习兴趣的方法。第一,把握课堂良机,活跃课堂气氛。第二,创设情境,激发兴趣。第三,采用多元化评价,巩固学习兴趣。第四,建立新型师生关系。第五,开展内容广泛,形式多样的英语课外活动。【关键词】 初中生 英语教学 学习兴趣.IntroductionNow many junior students like learning many subjects except English. The reason is that English learning experience once did not bring a sense of achievement to them so that they lost the interest in English learning. When it comes to the interest,we can find that there are many definitions of interest. It is easy for us to conclude that interest refers to the people act it in the attitude toward selection and the reflection of active emotion. (Hercenhahn P123)In learning, interest is a special hobby for one subject, one book or one activity. Nowadays, against the background of new curriculum reform, it becomes a realistic problem that how to develop the students study interest in the process of English teaching. Student learning interest is the most practical and efficient internal power, directly affecting the learning effect. For junior middle school students, many of them are unwilling to study English. The key point is that they are not interested in English. Accordingly, the chief task for teacher is to try their best to stimulate and arouse students learning interest. On the condition of being full of English learning interest, students will be relaxed, pleasant, initiative to study. More importantly, teacher should mobilize all the students to enjoy the study and impel students to study actively. Therefore, students inspiration flower will be blossomed for a equal, friendly, harmonious and real study atmosphere. Analysis of English Learning Interest1.The definition of interest Interest can be used as a noun or verb, therefore, it is also regarded as diversity which means it has different kinds of meanings, including its financial meaning and psychological meaning. But in this paper, we just analyze its psychological meaning. We often apply it to the English class. However, according to Oxford Elementary Learners Dictionary of English, interest is a noun that means wanting to know or learn about something or someone because it is important (1986,P294), but Oxford Advanced Learners English-Chinese Dictionary Extended Fourth Edition states that interest is a state of wanting to learn or know about somebody or something, curiosity, concern, quality that arouse concern or curiosity, power to hold ones attention (2002,P780).Whats more, as Addison Wesley Longmans Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English explains, interest is a feeling that makes you want to pay attention to something or to find out more about it (2002, P742) But at the same year, Cambridge Learners Dictionary argue that interest is a kind of activity or subject that you can enjoy doing, studying or experiencing when you are not working (2002, P347).2.The significance of English learning English is the most widely used language in the world. It also becomes an important tool for China to open to the outside world and communicate with other countries. According to statistics, there are more than four hundred million people in the world regarding English as their mother tongue. The people who speak English in America, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and so on. Moreover, the countries that treat English as their second language distribute in different regions and nations in the world.In the scope of English using, most business letters around the world are written in English; half of the calls are made in English; 60% broadcasts are conducted in English; English is the first language in the vast majority of the International Conference; a large number of famous network sites and instruction of computer games are presented in English. In science and technology, many scientific and technological material and research information are often published in English in the world.3.The necessity of developing students English learning interest The present criteria on curriculum of English for basic education is promulgated and put into practice to speed up students comprehensive and harmonious development. Teachers are required to arouse and develop the students interest in English learning first of all. Students affection cultivation is also put at an important position in the teaching practice. As the foreign specialist on study research, Jean Piaget once said: “All the intelligent activities depend on the interest.” Albert Einstein also said: “Interest is the best teacher.” Interest inspires us to know and discover things in the world. Thus, learning interest takes a very important part in learning. The interest is the tendency for us to try to know a certain thing or love a certain activity. This kind of tendency involves certain emotion. The cultivation and development of interest can not only make the students have high motion, full spirit, but also make the students have positive attitude toward learning. For the students, interest is one of the most realistic and positive factors in learning. It is the inner motivation of the students to know the world and discover the truth in the world. The learning interest can not only be transformed into the learning motivation, but also promote the intellectual development of the students if they have interest in certain subject. They will be thirsty for studying otherwise the students will take study as a big burden and wont find happiness in it if they lose interest in it. It is not inherited but can be cultivated in their living environment and the education they have received is the main factor. The psychological studies suggested: when the students listen to a lesson in the classroom, the contents have to excite some nerve cells of the brain layer of the students. In this way they can comprehend the contents that the teacher talks about. Whether the contents cause the excitement or not is decided by the teachers lecture.Confucius, the great educationalist of ancient China,once pointed out: “The man who knows it is not as good as the man who likes it; the man who likes it is not as good as the man who takes delight in it”. So the teacher should use all kinds of ways to arouse students interest in learning English. The main reason of junior students poor performance in study is losing study interest. In addition, interest is the second reason to explain the excellent study behavior in addition to effort. Interest accounts for 25% to the influence of success, but intelligence is 15%; lacking of interest accounts for 35% to the influence of failure, but the intelligence is zero. In the process of English learning, many students only experience difficulty, frustration and failure. They firmly think that they stay in two world that have never had intersection with English, not to speak of the significance and indispensability of English learning. In the severe reality, interest arousing and fostering is especially important. For that reason, this paper concludes three advantages about interest: promote the ongoing activities, prepare for the future activities and motivate creative thinking for students.3.1 Promote the ongoing activitiesInterest is an inclination behaviour that is full of strong feelings. It gives the students an incentive to pay more attention to obtain knowledge and finish the ongoing activities creatively.3.2 prepare for the future activitiesInterest gets the students to make a good preparation for the future activities. For example, a young child is interested in drawing, dancing. Hisher interest will be helpful for hisher future development in art. Of course, if someone is fond of chess, he must have the energy and desire for the champion of chess.3.3 motivate students creative thinking Interest always urges people to work, study and make a deep research creatively and positively. For instance, a child who is keen on drawing will show plenty of imagination and creativity. Another example, if a child is partial to chess, his ability of independent thinking and his imperturbable attitude for dealing with troubles can be trained in the process of chess match. In addition, if some students who like arithmetic, people can develop their creative thinking and inverse thinking so that they can not only raise their learning efficiency, but improve their learning method.Strategies for Development the Students English Learning Interest1. Grasp appropriate opportunity to enliven the classroom atmosphere Nowadays, most junior students are the only child in their family. Every student is smart and cute. They are brave to say, to do and to think. Therefore, English teachers should not hold down the students curiosity and thirsty for knowledge so as to blindly pursue the classroom discipline. In class, the teacher should make use of rich language, facial expressions and body language as much as possible, so that students can continuously arouse English learning interest and be given full scope to their ability in a relaxed and harmonious atmosphere.When the students, especially the beginners, can not wait to know this subject, teachers should take full advantage of the opportunity to introduce the importance, and reason of learning English. Students can talk about the benefit of English in daily life. It is said that each airs his own views. In that time, every student will be enthusiastic about English. And it also arouses English learning interest for the further study. For example, an English teacher can often tell students: English is easy to learn, not difficult; open your mouth and follow me; put up your fist and believe in yourself. Accordingly, in students heart, they understand that English is not difficult. As long as they have confidence, learning English well is an inevitable result. Therefor, they will be yearn for learning English and quiet their fears about English. It is proved one famous saying: A good beginning makes a good ending. It is said that a harmonious class atmosphere is the half of teaching success. Therefore, in classroom teaching, teacher should pay particular attention to using a few minutes to create a good classroom atmosphere before the class. For example, singing an interesting song; telling a meaningful story or singing an English song( such as Happy New Year) with lively rhythm to enliven class atmosphere, enhancing the class interest and stimulating students hunger for knowledge and learning initiative to increase the interest in learning.2.Create situations to stimulate learning interest As we all know, people can transfer interest into motivation, which make people actively overcome difficulties. Subsequently, a good learning attitude is formed. As far as junior students are concerned, they are too young to have mental stability. Accordingly, teachers are required to attach importance to the situational teaching by creating lively performance and playing interesting games so that students can go into study in a positive psychology. For example, in teaching dialogue, the teacher can teach some key important statement at first. Then students make a presentation after they are familiar with the content of the sentences. The students design actions and show it naturally in person, which stimulate students learning interest and enthusiasm. Another example , teachers can organize some games in the process of teaching so that students can learn in play and play in learning. More importantly, students can not only gain knowledge and develop English learning interest, but also lay a solid foundation for English study in future. Most of teenagers are lively and active. They can do better in memory and imitating something. Using lively way make students go into an interesting English world. For example, after studying the Direct Speech and Indirect Speech, English teachers can organize students to perform an common activity. This is one example:the mother give her husband one call, then let her husband retell to her son. M: Tell him to study hard. F: Your mother told you to study hard. M: Dont miss me. F: Your mother told you not to miss her. M: Get up early.F:.Physical scene can be divided into things demonstration and practice. 1) Junior students learning content include some nouns about people and something. The English teacher can use some visualized teaching aids to develope students thought. Students learning interest will be aroused though making an connection between the visualized teaching aids and daily life. For example, T: This is a radio, a radio. S: A radio T:(point to the radio)What is this? S: Its a radio. T: Based on the physical scene, students learning interest and enthusiasm are aroused. Consequently, it is good for students to boost memory and easy to memorize words. 2)It is unnecessary to make students memorize words mechanically in vocabulary teaching. On the contrary, the better choice is to memorize words in practice. For example, when learning the word “lazy”, the teacher can set up such a scene: “I have a brother, he is very lazy, he gets up late and does nothing all day. I said to him: dont be so lazy ,do some work.”Another example, when learning the words”borrow” and “lend”, the teacher can explain in this way: “I borrowed a book from you. That means you lent the book to me.” Therefore, one good example or lively scene is more useful for students to understand the meaning of words clearly and accurately.3.Establish a new relationship between teachers and studentsGu Rueguo once said, “If only the students are closed to teacher, they would love the teachers lesson.”(1999,P264). The relationship between teachers and students is based on the premise of human nature. Modern education view is that human nature is positive and enterprising and have the potential of growth and progress. The aim of modern education is to cultivate the students learning ability, promote his physical, mental and emotional development and ensure his psychological soundness. However, authoritative relationship between teachers and students can kill students creativity. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a new harmonious relations between teachers and students. First of all, teachers should often make an emotional communication with their students. Education is full of affection and love. If teachers can make intimate friends with students, even treat them as brothers or sisters, students will feel that the teacher is the most worthy of trust. They are willing to talk all the things with teachers thereby. Secondly, teachers should arouse students emotional resonance by devoting their sincere love.There are many ways for teachers to convey their kindness, encouragement, trust and respect to students. Such as words, actions and facial expressions. Under this circumstance, students are not afraid of making mistakes and dare
