Section Grammar.阅读理解AMark Twain, the famous American writer, liked to play jokes on others. But once a joke was played on him.One day Mark Twain was asked to give a talk in a small town. At lunch he met a young man he knew who told him that he had an uncle who never laughed or smiled. The young man told Mark Twain that nobody and nothing could possibly make his uncle smile or laugh.“You bring your uncle to my talk tonight,” said Mark Twain. “Im sure I can make him laugh.”That evening the young man and his uncle sat in the first row. Mark Twain spoke directly at the old man. He told some rather interesting stories, which made everyone in the hall laugh. But the old man never even smiled. Mark Twain told the most interesting stories he knew. But the old mans face was still a blank. At last Mark Twain stopped. He felt tired and discouraged. Some days later, Mark Twain told a friend of his about what had happened. “Oh,” said his friend, “I know that old man. He has been deaf for years.”【语篇解读】本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了幽默大师马克吐温的故事。1Which of the following sentences is NOT true?AMark Twain could make everyone in the hall laugh except the old man.BMark Twain liked to play jokes on others.CNobody ever played a joke on Mark Twain.DOnce a young man played a joke on Mark Twain.解析:选C细节理解题。根据第一段第二句“But once a joke was played on him.”可知C项说法有误。2The young man who Mark Twain met at lunch told him that .Ahis uncle liked to listen to Mark Twains talkBhis uncle could not possibly be made to laugh or smileChis uncle never laughed at peopleDnobody and nothing could make his uncle stop laughing or smiling解析:选B细节理解题。根据第二段最后一句 “. nobody and nothing could possibly make his uncle smile or laugh.”可知答案为B。3Mark Twain told the young man .Ato bring his uncle to lunchBto ask his uncle to talk there that nightChe could make his uncle laughDto sit in the first row with his uncle解析:选C细节理解题。由第三段可知马克吐温让年轻人带他的叔叔来听他的演讲,到时他会让他叔叔大笑。4Mark Twains stories made everyone in the hall laugh except .Athe old manBthe young manCMark Twain himselfDa friend of Mark Twains解析:选A细节理解题。由第四段中的“But the old man never even smiled . And that could mean serious problems for the environment and nations that depend on fisheries (渔业). A new estimate shows that it is 32 million tons higher than countries have been reporting yearly. The same report notes that the worlds fish catch has been declining since the late 1990s. Countries report their industrial catches to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. But they do not report other kinds of fishing. This includes the catches of small commercial fisheries, which are called artisanal fisheries, and fishing for recreation and individual food.Daniel Pauly at the University of British Columbia in Canada led the study. He noted that a huge amount of some catches is thrown away. “For example, shrimp trawlers (拖网渔船) keep only the shrimp and the fish that they catchoften eight to ten times as much as the shrimpgets thrown away.”Pauly told VOA that better estimates of the actual global catch will help ensure there will be enough fish in the future. “But our figures suggest that since 1996 a rapid decrease is happening. And if you project this forward you end up in a few decades having much less catch, literally no catch. So that is potentially dangerous.”Researchers also found ways the worlds fisheries are changing. They found that fishing fleets of larger nations are catching fish in the waters of developing countries more and more.Pauly said he was surprised by the amount of fishing done by foreign fleets in competition with local fishers. “In West Africa, the figure that was most astonishing is the enormous role of foreign fishingof European and Asian vessels fishing legally or illegally and competing against local fishermen. On the other hand for the US, Australia and some developing countries, such as the Bahamas, what was apparent is the enormous contribution of recreational fisheries, which also never get reported to the FAO.”Researchers say inaccurate data also harms the development and supervision (监管) of effective policy and management measures.【语篇解读】世界范围内捕鱼的数量比报告中的数量要多很多,而这些虚假报告对经济和环境都造成了不好的影响。5Whats the main idea of the passage?AFalse amount of fish caught worldwide harms economy environment.BThe worlds fish catch has been declining.CThe global fishing competition is serious.DThe management of global fishing needs improving.解析:选A主旨大意题。根据文章第一段第一、二句“The amount of fish caught worldwide is much larger than has been reported.
