Teaching aids :Multimedia , pictures Teaching procedure :Before class, let students read the new words loudly.Step I. Lead-in. 1. Let students guess the words according to the pictures. Show the pictures to the students , let students speak out the words : dining hall , gate , playground , building , library , sports hall , office and science building . 2. Practice the using of words and phrases: behind, in front of, on the left (of), on the right (of), between and T: Where is the sports hall?S: The sports hall is behind the classroom. T: You can also say: Behind the classroom is the sports hall. Where is the library?S: The library is in front of the dining hall. In front of the dining hall is the library. T: Where is the library? S: The library is on the left of the office. On the left of the office is the library . T:Where is the office? S: The office is between the library and the science lab. Between the library and the science lab is the office . T;Where is the science lab? S:The science lab is on the right of the office. On the right of the office is the science lab . 3. Reading. 1. Pre-reading. Firstly, introduce a reading strategy to the classmates: Try to get some information from the title or the pictures. According to the title: The library is on the left of the playground, instruct the students to predict: What will the passage talk about?2. While-reading 1) Skimming: Reading strategy: Read quickly; only find out important words or sentences. Let students skim the passage and answer the questions. How many buildings are there in the school ?Answer: Six. Is the playground in the middle of the school ?Answer: Yes, it is. 2) Scanning: Reading strategy: Following the number is very important to understand the passage.Let students read the passage again and put the pictures in the right order.Firstly, let students read the passage and fill in the blanks on the book. Then ask several students to come to the blackboard and put the pictures in the right order. 3) Careful reading: Reading strategy: While you are reading, catching the key words. Firstly, explain to the students what key words are. Then let them read the passage again and pay attention to the key words. A: Read the passage and answer the questions. Whats on the right of the library? Answer: The playground. Whats in the library? Answer: There are many books, maps and computers. How many classrooms are there in the classroom building? Answer: There are 24 classrooms. Where are the computer rooms and science labs? Answer: They are in the science building. B: Read the passage loudly and check if you have any questions.3. Post-reading. A: Retell the passage. Firstly, instruct the students to retell the passage according to the hints: The playground is in the middle of the school. Its near the gate. On the left of the playground is the library. The office building is behind the library. The classroom building is between the offices. The dining hall is on the right of the classroom building. The sports hall is in front of the dining hall. The science building is in front of the sports hall. Then give students 3minutes to prepare the retelling. After that, encourage the students come to the blackboard and retell the passage. B: Show the map of Jin Cheng middle school to the students and ask them to describe our school. Students are required to work in group of four and write a passage. Ill give them 4 minutes to prepare. After that, I will invite some students to share their passage with the whole class. C: Discussion Now that we have been talking about school, Id like students to discuss “What can we do for our school?” After the discussion, I will encourage the students to speak out their ideas. I hope students can think about this question deeply and contribute to our school in their everyday
