His father was a physician and specialist in tropical diseases; his mother was active in the Liberal Party. He was a

6、n awkward schoolboy, but knew from early on that he wanted to study science. He became increasingly skilled in mathematics and in 1958 he and some friends built a primitive computer that actually worked. In 1959 he won a scholarship to Oxford University, where his intellectual capabilities became mo

7、re noticeable. 8、用惊人的毅力忍受着常人难以想像的痛苦,同病残作顽强的斗争,同时勤奋地学习,忘我地工作。她先后自学了小学、中学和大学的专业课程。 张海迪还自学了英语、日语、德语和世界语,翻译了近20万字的外文著作和资料。翻译出版海边诊所丽贝在新学校小米勒旅行记莫多克一头大象的真实故事等作品。1983年,张海迪开始走上文学创作的道路,著有散文集鸿雁快快飞向天空敞开的窗口生命的追问。还写作出版长篇小说轮椅上的梦绝顶等。多本著作在国外出版,曾获全国“五个一工程”图书奖。至今,张海迪创作和翻译的作品超过200万字。张海迪多年来还做了大量的社会工作,她以自己的演讲和歌声鼓舞着无数青少年奋发向上。她经常去福利院、特教学校、

9、残疾人家庭,看望孤寡老人和残疾儿童,给他们送去温暖。张海迪曾长期担任中国残疾人福利基金会理事,中国残疾人联合会主席团委员,山东省残疾人联合会副主席等职务。2008年11月,她积极参加残疾人事业的各项工作和活动,呼吁全社会都来支持残疾人事业,关心帮助残疾人,激励他们自强自立,为残疾人事业的发展作出了突出的贡献。 Look at the pictures on page 1 and read the passages below each picture.1.
