2、he is dead atlast, his spirit had led his people to fight and get freedom. This meanin gful work has touchedso manyhearts by itssig ni fica nee theme and content.The theme of this work can mainly be seen over the grow ing image of William Wallace. First we see his childhood.His father was killed by
3、the English intruder, which may definitely leave a scar on his heart. With this great hatred, whe n he saw his wife killed by the en emies, everythi ng stuck deep down his heart was released all of a sudden with mag nifice nt power. So in the fight ing sce ne, we see a warrior dared his life wav ing
4、 the sword. It is a com mon won der where his courage is from. Let&rsq uo;s say, if it is an ordi nary pers on, who lost his pare nts since he&rsq uo;s very young, he may not ihave the conv icti on to grow up as a hero. However, heroes are as heroes are.Wallaces revolutionwas significant,seen from m
5、anyaspects, with great obstacles from his coun tryme n, as well as en emies. Many Scottishno bleslent him only grudg ingsupport as most of them were more concerned with wealth and titles tha n the freedom of the country. In fact, the Scottish leaders are in favor of revolt-or not-dependingon English
6、bribes. Wallace, by comparis on, is a man of honor, in corruptible and righteous. He was kni ghted and proclaimed ‘guardia n and high protector of Scotla nd’, butas much as he railed aga inst the Scottish n obles, submitted to Edward I, King of En gla nd, he was ast oni shed and in shock

8、Wallace, warni ng him out of several traps. Catheri ne McCormack is a stunning beauty who ign ites Wallace’s revoluti on. Patrick McGooha n is chilli ng, brutal, and vicious as the ruthless Edward I, known by the nickname ‘Long sha nks.’ This ki ng remai ns simply the embodime nt o
9、fevil. While Angus McFadyenmoves as a nobleman tornbetwee n his con scie nee and political aspiratio n, and Brendan Glees on brings stre ngth and humor to his role as the robust Hamish, David O’Harais very effective as the crazyIrishma n who provides much of the film’s comic relief from
10、eve n the most ten sed mome nts. Mel Gibs on has reas on to be proud of this work. It is a moti on picture that dares to be excessive…Gibs onprese ntspassi on atelythe mostspaciously impressive battles (yet staged for films ) even excessively, and it is his passion and excess that make the mo
11、tion picture great. The horror and futility of massed han d-to-ha nd combats are excit ing rather repulsive. It is epic film-making at its glorious best. This movie focuses on the human side of Wallace, a character that is so immense, so in tellige nt, and so passi on ate, explori ng the defi niti o
12、ns of honor and nobility, pushing us to follow the hero into his struggle against injustice and oppression. And this is the power of a hero.Also, this movie is a red-blooded battle epic. Not much isknown about Wallace, known as Braveheart, except that according to an old epic poem, he unified the cl
13、ans of Scotia nd and won famous battles aga inst the En glish before being captured, tortured and executed as a traitor.Wallace cried, as his body was stretched on the rack. That isn’t exactly based on fact (the concept of personal freedom was a concept not much celebrated in 1300), but itdoes
14、 n&rsq uo;t stop Gibs on from making it his dying cry. It fits in with the whole glorious sweep of Braveheart, which is an acti on epic with the spirit of the Hollywood swordplay classics and the grungy ferocity of “ The Road Warrior ”。What people are going to remember from the film are the battle s
15、cenes, which are freque nt, bloody and viole nt. Just from a tech ni cal point of view, Braveheart does a brillia nt job of mass ing men and horses for large-scale warfare on film. Gibs on deploys what look like thousa nds of men on horseback, as well as foot soldiers, archers and dirty tricks speci
16、alists, and yet his battle seque nces don&rsq uo;t tur n into confusing crowd sce nes: We un dersta nd the strategy, and we enjoy the tactics eve n while we doubt some of them.Gibs on is not filming history here, but myth. William Wallace may have been a real person, but Braveheart owes more to Prin
17、ce Valia nt, Rob Roy and Mad Max. Once we un dersta nd that this is not a sole mn historical recon structi on(and that happens pretty fast), we accept dialogue that might otherwise have an uncannilymodern tone, as whenBraveheart issues his victory ultimatum to the En glish. In the film, Wallaces chi
18、ef an tag onistis King Edward I, played byPatrick McGooha n with sly cunning; he is con sta ntly giving his real political in terpretati on of eve nts, and thats all the more amus ing si nee he&rsq uo;s usually guess ing in a wrong way.Edward&rsq uo;s son, the Prince of Wales, is a very weakrole who
19、 marries a French woman only for political reasons and he&rsq uo;s a gay himself. Eve n his father does n&rsq uo;t like him. “I may have to con ceive the child myself! ” the ki ng says, and in deed, un der the medieval con cept, or“ first ni ght, ”no bles were allowed a first cha nee to sleep with t
20、he wives of Scottish men. The Princess, played by the French actress Sophie Marceau, does not much admire her husband,whospends most of his time hanging about moon-eyed with his best friend(until the king, in a fit of impatienee, hurls thefriend out the castle window )。Edward, smarti ng from defeats
21、, dispatches the Prin cess to offer his terms to Braveheart, but soon she&rsq uo;s spilli ng all the state secrets, “ because of the way you look at me. ” The Prin cess is the sec ond love in Wallace’s life; the first, hischildhood sweetheart Murron(Catherine McCormack ),marries him in secret.
22、 The two spend their wedding night outdoors, and the backlit shot as they embrace gains somethi ng, I thi nk, from the frost on their breaths.These characters come fromharde nedstock. WhenWallace has a reunion with his childhood pal Hamish, they hurl rocks at each other for en terta inment; later, w
23、he n a Scotsma n has his wound cauterized all he says is,“ That&rsq uo;ll wakeyou up in the morning, boy! ” It is sometimes seen as an egotistical gesture whe n actors direct themselves, especially in heroic epics costing$53 million. The truth is, given this material, I do not know that anyone could
24、 have directed itbetter. Gibs on marshals his armies of extras, his stunt men andworld that ishis special effects, and creates a fictionalen terta ining, and thrilli ng.And as to Braveheart,Gibs on playshis role withflamboyanee,and cuts it withsly humor. Heis an amazingbattlefield strategist,inven t
25、i ngnew strategiesand weapons,outsmartingthe English at every turn, leading his men into battle with his face pain ted blue, like a football fan. There is a sce ne where he is so pumped up with the sce nt of battle that his no strils flare; n ot many actors could get away with that, but Gibs on can.
26、In the mea nwhile, this movie is a very touchi ng love story. William lost beloved woma n, it means los ing the only love of life, suddenly of heart desperate for power, revenge for the loss of love, so he killed the Scottish soldiers and chiefta in s. I un dersta nd it as a fight for the love of ba
27、ttle.This is actually a blasting fuse, the real highlight of the Scottish people with the pursuit of freedom in Williams leadership, the struggle against the King of England. So we can say that the light of freedom is the most eye-catching thing. However, human nature once again deceived William, wh
28、e n he was betrayed n oble chiefta ins sent after the trial un its in En gla nd, whe n William lear ned that his dream of freedom can be completed, and only mind eagerly look ing forward to it!At the time, as long as he can head down to England, he con fessed to treas on and asked for mercy, he can
29、get the most enjoyme nt of relief, replac ing many of the lin geri ng death of torture. But William the final calls out from the throat or the“free ” word. This is his deep, strong cry, he would rather lose his body could not betray his heart! En gla nd at this time the public was moved by whom, and
30、 they seem to see a real hero!William has a brave heart!Willia m’s life was stra ngled and decapitated! Whe n the ax head dow n towards him the mome nt he saw his wife the former Founder directed at his smile, seemed to admire his courage, love and freedom, while William seems to have bee n! B

Able to adhere to the death of their conv icti ons, this is a heroic bosom. Free about life, William has become a fini shed, for this f
32、aith, have nothing to fear death?Today, we are in a period of relative peace; the meaning of freedom seems to transform our way of interpreting it. So, what belief is it that touches the bottom of our souls? What does William’sspirit mean? Have a belief, this beliefshould work hard to our spir
