In principle, the damper seal is like asile ncer for a gun .It has radial holes which“ trap ” th
13、e gases and produce smallof damp ing ” . These tech no logies have bee n put to good use in the rece nt years and have reduced the nu mber of stability problems in the turbomach inery in dustry. ? Swirl brakes: The cause for aero-i nduced excit ing forces, as no ted above, is the swirl or the tangen
14、 tial velocity component of the gas. If we are able to redirect the gas to reduce the swirl velocity, we could potentially reduce the excitation forces. The swirl brake is a stationary ring with blade-like axial“teeth ” aiougriferenee. The teeth redirect the gas flowand reduce the swirl velocity. Th
15、is device improves the stability of the rotor-bearing system. It is used at the impeller eye seals and at the bala nee pist on or divisi on wall seal of a centrifugal compressor. Shunt holes: Similar to swirl brakes, taking gas off the diffuser of the last stage impeller and in ject ing it before th
16、e bala nee pist on or divisi on wall will also reduce the swirl velocity. They are typically used at the division wall of a back-to-back compressor. ?
