4、 with the topic on how to form a band.2. a. communicate with others to collect information on forming a band, thus getting ready for the later writing task.b: write coherently an e-mail asking for advice on how to make a band.3. feel free to ask for advice on the topic and express their views bravel
5、y and sincerely; be glad to cooperate and share with each other.4. develop their writing abilities by using the process-oriented approach. such as collecting and arranging information and revising.teaching procedurestep 1 warming-up (5mins)enjoy a song -hey jude by the beatles(1) the school music is
6、 coming, ask ss what kind of program they want to show. ss are allowed to have a discussion. (2) after a whole class discussion, the topic will be shifted to playing music in a band. (t: “let me say that/why dont we play band music, because it will leave a deeper impression on both the jury and the
7、audience. how do you think?”)(the purpose is to arouse sss attention and interest in todays topic and to create an authentic scene to motive ss to write in reality. in addition, the language elements on asking and giving advice can be introduced naturally during the communication.)step 2 brainstormi
8、ng (8mins) divide the whole class into 8-9groups of 5 to discuss about how to form a band. they can write down all possible ideas that pop to their head related to the topic on a piece of blank sheet. for example the name for your band. who will play what instrument and who will sing. what kind of b
9、and you will be: e.g. a rock band or a group of singer? chose a representative song for your band.(in the brainstorming session, sss mind can be broadened and their thoughts can be inspired by each others sparkling points, thus gathering enough materials for writing so that they will have things to
10、say.)step 3 mapping (5mins)ask ss to organize their ideas from brainstorming. they can either make a diagram or an outline. e.g. (mapping will give ss the opportunity to select from the list some useful ideas to be included in their writing and also to see how these ideas can be put together in a co
11、herent or logical way. in addition, more ideas may be stimulated during this session. )step 4 free writing (5mins)with the above preparation, ss may have got a package of ideas on their plan, but they have not achieved an agreement on some specific aspects. at this moment, the teacher should suggest
12、 ss writing an e-mail to freddy for advice.they can work in pairs to list some questions and one or two reasons for each question or anything that comes to their mind. then put them on the sheet. (free writing can help ss develop fluency in writing)step 5 outlines (3mins) after free writing, ask ss
13、to make a more detailed outline which should include the main organizing structure and the most important points of the e-mail. e.g.step 6 drafting (10mins)before ss begin writing on their own, the teacher can present a sample letter for them to read. when reading, they should pay close attention to
14、 the red lines and analyze the structure of the letter. ss should be made aware of the various expressions on asking for advice which are used flexibly in the letter. then ss can start writing. encourage ss to be bold in expressing their ideas and pay less attention on grammar and spelling.(a brief
15、explanation about the sample letter can help ss finish writing effectively and efficiently)step 7 after writing activities (editing, revising and proofreading) 10minsa. ask ss to read through their writing carefully and check the clarity of ideas or the logical development of their writing. e.g. add
16、ing new points or deleting irrelevant facts, taking risks to use new words and structures in their writing.b. ask two students to read aloud their writings. others listen carefully, the teacher ask one st to comment on their writing. at the same time, the teacher demonstrates how to evaluate on writ
