3、hould not be true.”Here,we dont know the man who the dead woman talks to.suspense,let us want to know who is digging on the grave.The dead woman believes that her lover is at her grave,but the answer is ironyirony.The dead woman do get hurt from her lovers word.“Then who is digging on my grave, My n

4、earest dearest kin?” “Ah, no: they sit and think, What use!What good will planting flowers produce?No tendance of her mound can loose Her spirit from Deaths gin.”Metaphor.Here,deaths gin refer to death The dead woman thin her kin arenearest dearest,but they dont remember her.She feels disappointed.“

My enemy? prodding sly?” “Nay: when she heard you had passed the GateThat shuts on all flesh soon or late,She thought you no more worth her hate, And cares not where you lie.”Metaphor.pass the gatehere means the death gate.死神之门The strongest emotions are the love and t

6、he hate.Here,When the dead woman knows that her dearest people has forgotten her,she put hope to her enemy.But the voice tell it wasnt.“Then, who is digging on my grave? Say since I have not guessed!” “O it is I, my mistress dear,Your little dog , who still lives near,And much I hope my movements he

7、re Have not disturbed your rest?”personification.Here,the woman has exhausted,she doesnt want to guess anymore.and the suspence reveals.the voice is the dog.“Ah yes! You dig upon my grave. Why flashed it not to meThat one true heart was left behind!What feeling do we ever findTo equal among human ki

8、nd A dogs fidelity!”In this stanza,we can feel the surprise in dead womans voice“Mistress, I dug upon your grave To bury a bone, in caseI should be hungry near this spotWhen passing on my daily trot.I am sorry, but I quite forgot It was your resting place.” Irony.In the end,her pet dog didnt remember its mistress.Allthe people has forgotten the dead woman.The poet recognized that personal relation provide no refuge from tragic experience .This plainly means that,as far as death is concerned,few are truly remenbered,if any,after they are dead and gone.In this poem,itseem
