3、 2a summarizes many aspects of knowledge we learned this unit. Its like cultural and moral education. It tells us how and when to use polite requests and tells us to use suitable language. The main purpose of the reading lies on cultivating Ss reading skill to find topic sentence. Besides, it shows

4、us many ways to transform a direct question to a polite request. But not all the knowledge is taught by teacher, it must be discovered by Ss themselves. Therefore, in this class, the teacher is the guider, by setting situations or asking question, guiding Ss to attain the teaching aims step by step.

5、 First, we will have a discussion, what language does a speaker use? Correct language, polite language or suitable language? According to our common sense, they may say that a good speaker uses polite language or suitable language. Then, the teacher set a situation for Ss to have a free talk. To dif

6、ferent people, what request will they make? Those different answers reveal a simple conclusion: Good speakers use suitable language! Next, Ss will discuss that where they need to make polite requests? And then, Ss are told to read the first paragraph and find the topic sentence. The teacher can asks

7、 Ss to discover the place where the topic sentence usually appears. After this process, it is very easy for Ss to find topic sentences of other paragraphs.The teacher can reveal the reading strategy at this step to help Ss to have a clear understand about the structure of a paragraph. Then Ss are al

8、lowed to read the article in details to find answers to some specific questions. After that,Ss work in groups to finish activity 2c. Find all the direct questions and polite requests from the passage. As for 2d, a situation is set: David is new to Xiangtan. He has many questions. Think about to whom

9、 or where he will make such requests. The sentence “A: I think he will ask it to a _ in a _. B: I agree. And he will ask it in a _ too”helps Ss to discuss and finish the task. The possible answers are: in a foreign country; in public places like a bank, a post office, a library, a shopping mall, etc; at school; at home, when speaking to your elders.
