2、Unit 1, Whats he like? A Lets try & Letssttalk, Textbook PEP for Grade 5, 1 Semester.Im going to analyze tihs lesson in 6 parts.Lets begin withPart 1 Analysis of Teaching MaterialI divide it into 3 parts. No. 1, status and functions. The topic of this unit tios talkabout peoples looks. Ss will l
3、earn to use some words and phrases to describeteachersappearanceand characters, such as young, old, funny, quiet and so on. Theyllalso learn the sentence structures:“Do you know Mr. XX? Is he old/funny/.?”This lessonis the first period of this unit, Ss will read a dialogue about their teachersperson
4、ality, andlearn to use the target language to talk about about peoples look and character. So it is notonly a is the preliminary stage of the whole unit, but also an extension of Ssabilities.No.2 Teaching AimsFirst, Knowledge Aims, Ss are required to grasp some new words and phrases,they will learn
5、to describe people with useful expressions in this lesson.Next, Ability Aims. In this lesson, students will read and digest, practice andinternalize the target language to talk about peoples appearance and personality. So Illmainlydevelop studentsabilities of readingsapnedaking.As for Emotional Aim.
6、 Since ss will talk about people slooks, Ilcl atch the chanceto tell Ss how to get along well with different people, and never judge a person just by hisappearance.Next, important and difficult points Si nee there are large nu mbers of wordsand phrases to describe peoplelooks and characters. So I wi
7、ll give them more eha nces topractice and express, so that they can read and apply the target Ian guage freely .Next, Part 2 Analysis of the students As pupil in Grade 5, two yearSstudy ofEnglish will help Ss express themselves more freely, experience the happiness ofutilizing English They will be i
8、n terested in this topic and have some backgro und knowledge. But they are still in n eed of Teachers guida nee.Now lets come to part 3: Teaching Methods I decide to use 5P teach ing approaches to prese nt kno wledge. In accorda nee withthe requireme nts of New Nati onal Curriculum Criteria (NNCC),
9、Task-based Teach ingapproach will be properly used. So three tasks are desig ned to improve Ssskills and communi cative compete nee.Well, lets go on with Part 4 learning strategies I prefer to cultivate Ss abilities ofeon text readi ng, imitat ing acce nt, and ways to com muni cate and cooperate. Th
10、ey willtake an active part in the class activities and cooperate with others.Part 5 Teaching Procedures Well, Ill ma in ly talk abPatt 5 Teaching ProceduresT here are5 steps:Step 1 preparationFirst, Ss will say a chant with me, its about peoples looks. Then Well play a guess inggame. One stude nt de
11、scribes on eof their classmates and the others guess who he or sheis. I believe the cha nt and the game will warm up the ss and arouse their in terests in English lear ning.Step 2 PresentationAfter warming up, Ill presettire of Deng Chao and ask them :“Wis this?”They will be glad to answer the quest
12、ions with the help of theopsters. ThenIll ask them touse provided words to describe this actor. Next Ilalsk them“Do you want a teacher likehim? What kind of teachers would you like for your subjects? Do you like a strict mathteacher? Do you like a funny Chinese teacher?.”.After that, lets finish let
13、s try in order to learn some simple expression to describe aperson. Finally, We lead in to learn more from Wu Yifan and Olivers conversations abouttheir music teacher-Mr. Young.This step will enlarge ss vocabularies, expressionsand sweep away thedifficulties for further learning and expressing.Step
14、3 Reading (Talk)After the presentation, I design series of activities, such as listening, imitating, reading,role-playing the conversations. The activities are designed from easy to difficult, from basicskills to communicative competences. They are helpful in improving Ssabilities.First, listening.
15、Ask ss to listen to the dialogue carefully, and listen for the key wordsto describe a person. Second,imitating. Replay the MP3 material for Ss to imitate thestress and intonation, it can help to improve their pronunciation. Third, Reading. Readingaloud to digest the language material, improve Ssfami
16、liarity with the target language.Forth, Role-playing. Ask Ss to work in Halves, in pairs, in groups to role play theconversation. During the activities, they may exchange their roles and take substitutionpractice.This step-by-stepprocesswill help ss establish the knowledge systemand formlearning str
17、ategies and also improve their basic skills.Step 4 PracticeIn this step, substitution practice is highly evaluated.First Id likess to talk and makeup conversation with the help of the pictures. It is easy for the Ss to do because of thegiven information and the former practice, so they can do it con
18、fidently. We can also say itaspreparation for the following non-controlled Speaking. Then I design a fully-openedactivities: Ss work in pairs to talk about what their favorite teacher will be like.During this step, Ss are encouraged to express with what they have learned, and newways and expressions
19、 beyond the textbook are appreciated. Ss will benefit a lot fromopening their minds to express them freely.Step 5 ProgressIll tell the Ss that we are going to have a parents meeting,but we dont know yourparents,please talk about what your parents look like and fill in the chart in your group.After g
20、etting the information together, they choose one to report the survey results orally. Ithink the groupwork is so necessary that the students can use what they have learned intheir daily life .And it also provides the students an opportunity to communicate andcooperate with others. I put the groupwork ahead in order to sweep away the difficulties forspeaking and writing.As for homework, I want the Ss to collect some information about what their favoritestars look like on the Internet or in the book. Theyll be glad to do the homework. They willbe asked to describe their favorite stars in the ne
