As students we must not relax our efforts to engage in our studies so as to serve our nation and people in the future.But it is a pity that there are a lot of p

3、eople who do not know the importance of time. They spend their precious time smoking, drinking and gambling. They do not realize that wasting time is equal to wasting their valuable life.In a word, we should get into the good habit of saving time. Do not put off what can be done today until tomorrow

4、. Laziness will not only bring us failure but also lead us to the road of poverty.The Importance of Extensive ReadingWhat is extensive reading? Extensive reading is reading a lot. When you are doing extensive reading, you should not be reaching for a dictionary every sentence or even every paragraph

5、 because its main goal is to read for knowledge and pleasure.Through extensive reading, you learn and accumulate knowledge, and gradually become wise and intelligent. For example, by reading scientific books, we are informed of many facts; by reading history, we are told of the growth of the nations

6、.It is by reading that we can learn many things without actually seeing or hearing them. What is more, with a good book in our hands we will never feel lonely and dull. Books introduce us to great people. They take us to all the countries in the world and tell us stories of all ages.“Reading makes a

7、 full man”, said by Francis Bacon. Therefore, no matter how high our education may be or how much experience we may have, we cannot become a full man unless we keep extensive reading.Our DormitoryOur dormitory, shared by 8 students, is on the third floor of the Students Dormitory Building No. 5. Its

8、 window faces a busy street with a light blue curtain.It is a small room about 12 square meters. Against both the left and right walls stand four bunks which occupy much space of the room. In the middle of the room, there is a large desk that serves as a dinner table which is covered by a white clot

9、h. Near the door there is a stand for basins. A map of the world is on this side of the wall. Though crowded, it is neat and clean. We have also made it beautiful by putting our favorite drawings on the walls. When we come back after classes, the room beams with an atmosphere of restful merriness. A

10、s our home for four years, it is a dear place to us.Part-time Jobs for College StudentsA part-time job is popular on campus. Some students pick up jobs related to their major to acquire practical training, while others take any job to support themselves.It goes without saying that working part-time

11、in school has some advantages. First, a part-time job brings students more money and helps them to reduce their parents economic burdens. Second, it offers them a chance to demonstrate their ability and to apply what they have learned in school. Third, it helps them to gain some social and economic

12、knowledge and to practice their sociable abilities, which are of great help to their future careers. Finally, it enriches their school life.But this activity may also bring some disadvantages to the students. First, too much part-time working may lose their time needed for sleep, rest, study and rec

13、reation. Secondly, it may affect their studies if they come back with tiredness. And as a result, their studies are going down. Finally, more money may bring bad effects on some of the students who spend it smoking, drinking, dressing rather than studying.In my opinion, those students should keep a

14、balance between study and the job. As a student, acquiring more knowledge, especially more useful knowledge from books, is the main task. Although a part-time job can do you a world of good, you should not spend too much time on it.The Best Teacher I Like Professor Wang left a deep impression on me

15、by his devotion to English teaching. Before class, he would make careful preparations by studying a certain text thoroughly. In reading the text, he would keep in mind what his students had learned and where their difficulties lay. Then he would find a way to make his lecture an easy task for his st

16、udents.In class, he would surely present his lecture in the most interesting way. Like a film director, he often assigned a role for each student to play. At one time, he spoke seriously, and at other time, he might joke. In each case, students were all fully involved.After class, he often made frie

17、nds with his students. A weekend tea strengthened his ties with them; an on-the-way “Hello” warmed students heart. Indeed, he was a most trust-worthy friend in his students eyes. The Way of StudyThe purpose of our study is to master more scientific knowledge and techniques of production. The problem

18、 of learning so much during the limited time of our school life is often discussed. Methods of study, I think, can be individualized (因人而异), but the following suggestions should be helpful to all.First, in class you must keep your attention focused on your teachers lectures, trying to remember all y

19、ou can. Dont leave everything to memorize after class. Secondly, when you have difficulty in understanding, always ask yourself why several times before you go to ask your teacher or classmates. Thirdly, you must finish your homework on time. Dont let Sunday become another work day. Fourthly, when y

20、ou preview or review your lessons, you must also keep your thoughts on them, otherwise you will not get good results. Fifthly, if time permits, read as many reference articles or books as possible in order to help you understand your lessons better.In addition, write out a weekly schedule to insure

21、having plenty of time for rest and exercise so as to keep your mind refreshed.My Ideal JobI am a student of a teachers university. I am being trained to be a teacher. Teaching has always been a tempting job for me. When I entered the university I had already chosen teaching as my lifelong career. Af

25、 of 200 thousand. It is situated at the foot of a hill, beside a river. The railway runs on its north side where trains carry away the agricultural products and bring back manufactured goods for daily use.Its streets, though narrow, are straight and clean with shady trees on both sides. Stores, bank

26、s, a theatre and a cinema are in the shopping centre. Schools, a library and factories are scattered in the outer areas. Among the small old houses new multi-storey buildings are rising, creating ornaments of modernity for the city. Of course, in a wooded area there is a large park where a playgroun

27、d, pavilions and gardens are located around the banks of a large lake. Here people enjoy holidays with their families.Like other villages and towns of our country, my hometown is becoming rich and prosperous. I love it very much because it is the place where I was born and brought up, and because I

28、have numerous schoolmates, friends and relatives there.A Birthday PartyWe hold a surprise party for Donas twentieth birthday recently. First, we carefully made a guest list and invited many of her friends from our college. Second, we planned a suitable menu including some refreshing drinks and food,

29、 such as fruit, orange juice, ice-cream, and a birthday cake with twenty candles. Third, some excellent entertainment was performed. A boy did magic tricks skillfully and another boy played the guitar .Dona was very happy and moved by what we had done for her because she had never had birthday party

30、 before. We all feel delighted and had a wonderful time in this unforgettable party.Video GamesVideo games have become very popular in recent years. Wherever you go you can always see youngsters or even adults indulged in the games. When they play the games in clubs, stores, or at homes, they concen

31、trate all their attention on them, with their hands busily operating. Obviously, video games give them great pleasure and excitement.Video games are a kind of wonderful entertainment. They bring great pleasure to youngsters, train them to respond quickly, stimulate their imagination and interest in

32、electronics and computer science. IN short, video games play a good part in the development of youngsters intelligence.Just as a coin has two sides, video games also have some disadvantages. Some young people, especially school children, spend too much time playing them, which does harm to their hea

33、lth and eyes and affects their school achievements. Only if one has enough self-control can he benefit from video games.The Right Use of MoneyEvery man knows the value of money. Nothing can be bought without money. It is so useful that it is loved by every man.But money is an evil when wrongly used.

34、 It may bring you sadness, misery, and even ruin. You should not waste your money in gambling, smoking, dancing, or drinking. On the other hand, you should avoid parsimony lest you should become a miser.Money is an active thing. It should not be kept idle. You should use your money in doing somethin

35、g good. It is better to put it in sound investment than in speculation.To live demands money. To live within your income is good economy. Happy are those who act upon this rule. To save money is far better than to waste it.In short, you should use your money properly. Those who use it properly will

The right use of money may bring you a comfortable life and a cheerful heart.Traffic problemsTraffic is one of the essential activities for any big metropolis. Each day, passengers travel by car, train or pla

37、ne to and from every corner of the cities; heavy loads of goods are transported inside and outside. With the modernization in full swing, traffic has been making greater impact on the life of the cities. What a mess the cities would be in, if the arteries of such vital importance were out of action,

38、 even for a minute!Owing to the major role it plays, traffic has long been a matter of serious concern for many municipal governments. In the past decade, new bus routes have been opened to traffic and a lot more vehicles put into service, many highways, flying-bridges as well as underground subways

39、 have been built to ease out the “bottlenecks”. Meanwhile, new traffic projects are under consideration.For all these efforts, traffic in big cities like Beijing and Guangzhou still remains one of the biggest headaches. It is high time that traffic problems were given top priority on government agendas if China wants to catch up with developed countries.My Favorite Program

41、China Central Television Station (CCTV) today offers a great variety of programs to satisfy different needs and tastes. For example, the weather forecast is of special interest to farmers. For another example, the concert program appeals greatly to music lovers. The sports world attracts large numbe

42、rs of sports fans. My most favorite program, however, is news.The news program has several points that are worth mentioning as far as its contents and features are concerned. For one thing, it covers news about important events both at home and abroad. Besides, the news it provides is timely and rel

43、iable. Finally, broadcast in the evening during the so-called “golden time”, the news program reaches a wide audience.I like this program chiefly for two reasons. One is that it keeps me informed of the state of the nation and the world at large, which is essential to a college student. The other re

44、ason is that, since the news covers a comprehensive area and is fairly brief, it saves me much time reading through newspapers for current affairs. In short, watching the news on CCTV has become part of my daily life.Physical ExerciseMaintaining our health is very important. No one should trifle wit

Since youth is the time of physical development, we must do regular physical exercise every day in order to have a strong body and enjoy vigorous health.In physical exercise, perseverance is a primary necessity. We must struggle against our own laziness and stay with our exercise, rai

46、n or shine. It is also important to select personally suitable exercises and then to do them in an orderly way, step by step. Of course, exercises that we enjoy we will perform more persistently.Besides, it is a known fact that physical exercise, such as long-distance races, can also generally stren

Dear friends, especially those with health problems, come out to the playground and take part in exercises with us.Dining Out in a Fast Food RestaurantNowadays, fast food is popular in many Chinese cities. Fast food restaurants have mushroomed everywhere and many young people

48、 and school children enjoy having their breakfast and lunch there.Fast food restaurant is rapidly gaining popularity in China for quite a few reasons. Firstly, there are a variety of fast foods available. If you are busy or tired of cooking, you can have American hamburgers, French fries, an Italian

49、 pizza, or numerous traditional Chinese foods cooked quickly by modern technique. The food often looks so nice and smells so good that you cannot help trying it yourself. Secondly, fast food satisfies peoples needs. It is convenient, nutritious and delicious; the price is also reasonable so that eve

50、rybody can afford it. Finally, with fast food, you can save time and a world of trouble, such as shopping, cooking, cleaning up tables and washing greasy dishes. Consequently, it benefits people a lot. You may taste all kinds of food, listen to soft music, relax, and have time to do more important t

51、hings. Fast food has already changed our ways of living. With the rapid development of science and technology, fast food will give us better service and possibly become indispensable to our modern life.Studying AbroadAttending schools abroad has many advantages. In the first place, by looking at our

52、 own country from the outside, we can best see the strong points and weak points of our nation and therefore widen our vision and broaden our minds. Second, while studying in a foreign country, we can travel widely, visiting famous scenic spots and making friends with the local people. Thirdly, we c

53、an use the foreign language in our daily life so that our proficiency in the language may be improved quickly. But the most important thing in attending a foreign university is to get acquainted with the latest knowledge in science and technology and make use of the first-rate facilities available.

54、For all these advantages, it is really worthwhile to go abroad for education.However, as everything has two sides, there are also some disadvantages in attending a foreign university. The most serious problem is the language barrier. Most of the students who are ready to go abroad do not have adequa

55、te proficiency in the language spoken there. As a result, on arriving there, they will find it difficult to understand what the instructors are saying, Besides, due to lack of knowledge of the customs and ways of life of the local people, they may run into trouble in dealing with various situations.

Furthermore, the cost of living is much higher than that in our country, so most students have to find part-time jobs in order to help support themselves. Faced with these difficulties, many students find themselves unable to pay full attention to their stu

They contain the history of our race and the discoveries man has made. Books lead us to the path of glory and success. Through them we can talk free
