2、ly Phascolarctidae.*The koala is found in coastal regions of eastern and southern Australia, from Adelaide to the southern part of Cape York Peninsula. *Namekoala - “doesnt drink”scientific name -Phascolarctos cinereus Although the koala is not a bear, English-speaking settlers from the late 18th ce

3、ntury first called it koala bear due to its similarity in appearance to bears. Although taxonomically(classify) incorrect, the name koala bear is still in use today outside Australia.*Physical description*similar in appearance to the wombat*a thicker coat, much larger ears, and longer limbs( arms an

4、d legs)*large, sharp claws to assist with climbing tree trunks *Weight varies from about 14kg for a large southern male, to about 5kg for a small northern female *Physical description The koalas five fingers include two opposable( possible to oppose) thumbs, providing better gripping ability. 5、rst two fingers are positioned in apposition on the front paws, and the first three fingers for the hind paws. Koala fingerprints are similar to human fingerprints; even with an electron microscope, it can be quite difficult to distinguish between the two. *Food & Behavior*Koala has a slow metab

6、olism( processes occurring within a living cell or organism) ,sleeping for most of the day, about 16-18 hours a day.*Koala lives almost entirely on eucalypt leaves.
