Your passions will broaden your mind and make your life interesting. Second, never let go of any opportunities that come your way. Col
9、lege is full of unique opportunities, which will enable you to sample new things and meet wonderful people. Lastly, take responsibilities. In college you must learn to be responsible for your own decisions and actions. With the passions, the opportunities, and the ability to take responsibilities, y
10、ou will become successful not only in college, but also in your future career.U6Why people get fired from their jobsThere are several reasons why people get fired from their jobs. First, people may lose their jobs if they have some dishonest behaviors, such as cheating in their job applications or t
11、elling lies in work. Second, employees may be fired due to poor attendance. No boss like an employee who is often late for or absent from work. Third, people having difficulty getting along with their co-workers are also likely to be fired because they may cause conflicts in the workplace. Therefore
12、, to be a good employee, it is important to be honest, punctual, and cooperative.U7My dorm ( 适用于出租广告描写 )My dorm is nice to live in. For example, it has a very convenient location. It isclose to everything on campus. It only takes 5 minutes to walk to my classes, 8 minutes to the library, 15 minutes
13、to the swimming pool, and only 2 minutes to the cafeteria. What s more, there are great facilities in the building. There is a laundry room, a gym, a TV room, and even an ATM machine. Most importantly, I like my roommates.We get along very well, and we have a lot of fun together. In one word, l love

High school offers fundamental courses such as math, physics and English, whereas college offers more specialized courses, most of which are related to students majors. In high schoo
15、l, all classes are arranged by the school, so students just follow a fixed schedule;in contrast,college students can choose the courses in which they are interested and arrange their own schedule, so their schedule is more flexible. Moreover, high school students acquire knowledge and skills mainly
16、through teacher s instructions. 17、t of exercises in that book, but I don t care aboutit at all. My assumption is since I have never learned Chinese grammar, what s the sense of learning English grammar? In fact, English grammar has always been a big headache to me.English grammar is very complicated because, unlike Chinese, there ar
18、e many verb tenses. Even stranger than verb tenses, English grammar also contains something very confusing. For example, I don t remember how many times my middle school teacher tried to “ impose” th e differences between used to and be used to on us. Sometimes he would go on with the explanation fo
19、r 20 minutes or so. He even summarized the differences by listing three or four points for us to memorize. However, they could never stay in my head. I don t remember how many times I got it wrong with the sentences containing used to or be used to on my exams. I was really confused with these two p
20、hrases, and I can never get them right.In brief, I m allergic to learning English grammar. Curiously, I just wonder ifthe native speaker of English have a microcomputer in their brain to help them utter the two phrases promptly with just a click of their brain mouse.U2Advantages of taking physical e
21、ducation (P.E.) courseDid you have such an experience as when your high-school physical education (P.E.) teacher pushed you to run for several miles around the sports field in a P.E. class? Whenyou were sweating and out of breath, did you ever wish that you could only stop taking a P.E. class in col
22、lege? However, taking P.E. courses can be advantageous to all college students.First, taking P.E. classes helps students learn valuable communication and teamwork skills. There are many activities that require students to communicate and interact with each other when they are having a P.E. class. Fo
23、r example, when one group competes with the other in playing basketball, group cooperation is extremely important in order to win. Effective teamwork usually requires good communication skills.Another advantage is that taking P.E. classes enables students to more effectively handle their heavy cours
24、ework. Not infrequently, students sleep in class and miss important information. Not concentrating in class may be caused by insufficient sleep and no exercise. Through taking P.E. courses, students build up their health. Only when students stay healthy can they learn better.To sum up, taking a P.E.
25、 course at college can benefit students in developing useful social skills as well as better coping skills for their stress at school. Therefore, P.E. courses bring students advantages both physically and academically.U3Generation gap between parents and childrenThe odyssey years are certainly a ver
26、y complicated phase of life for young people.Not only do these young people need to overcome many difficulties, they also have to face many challenges from their parents. The differences between parents and children can be well observed in their completely different attitudes and views.First, they d
27、iffer in their attitude toward life. Parents always wonder what has gone wrong with the new generation. They feel that during their time, young boys and girls were better behaved, more obedient and had greater respect for elders.Young people, on the other hand, feel that they are capable enough to l
28、earn on their own rather than lean heavily on the oldergeneration for guidance. Young people donot like to be spoon-fed by their parents.The differences also appear in the way the two generations look at things. For example, the parents generation never understood Elvis and the Beatles. Because they
29、 couldn t understand what was going on, they were frequently opposed to them andsaw rock as “ the devil s music” . Young people, however, are crazy about the modern music and would love to listen to it for a hundred times a day. Wherever they go, they ll have their iPod with them.In conclusion, it s
30、 very difficult for parents and their youngsters to get along due to their distinctive attitudes and the way they view things. To fill this gap, both parents and their grown children need to be more understanding to each other.U4Making a public speechFrequently, students experience a tough time and
31、are faced with an activity beyond their ability. However, my freshman year learning experience made methink otherwise. I had never thought I could do it, but I finally conquered my fear of public speaking. At the beginning of the semester, myEnglish teacher gave the assignment of speaking for three
32、minutes in front of the class. It was an individual project worth 10 percent of the course grade. Since I was very nervous to speak in public, I worried aboutit for two months. Having no choice, I wrote all of my ideas on note cards. I practiced my speech with my notes in front of a mirror and in fr
33、ont of my dog. Would I be able to give my speech in front of my class?When the day of my speech came, I was ready. As I walked to the front of the class, I looked at mynote cards. At that moment, I realized that I had the wrong information. There were the notes for my biology test, not the informati
34、on about my speech! I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Suddenly, I began to speak. To my surprise, the words flowed from my mouth. I just couldn t believe it!Everyone applauded my speech, and I felt like a winner. The three-minute speech that day made merealize that people can always overcome
35、their odds if they are motivated.U5Bryan and Peter (different spending habit)It is often said that whatever wealth one may have will be gone quickly if the person only spends. However, some people think the purpose of life is to enjoy every moment, so they spend all they have earned. Even though Bry
36、an and Peter are close friends, their spending habits are very different.Bryan is very careful about using his pocket money. He only spends money when it s necessary. For example, when his pocket money is only $50, he may spend $20 on necessary stationery for schoolwork. He will try to deposit the r
37、emaining $30 in his savings account. In his opinion, though the amount is small, it will help him for a possible rainy day since people never know what could happen in the future.Unlike Bryan, Peter usually spends money at will. He often purchases expensive electronic products such as an iPhone and
38、an iPad. Sometimes, he might buy himself an expensive brand-name shirt or a pair of expensive brand-name shoes. Different from Bryan, he never deposits extra money in a bank after meeting his basic needs.To him, saving money in a bank is something very silly because he believes that he can always ea
39、rn big money after he gets a decent job in the future.All in all, Bryan and Peter are very different in the way they spend money. Spending money wisely and saving extra money for future urgent need enable students to manage their finance and fully concentrate on their study. They will also derive gr
40、eat pleasure from the way they handle their money.U6What causes people s irrational behaviorThere are a lot of people who behave irrationally, causing problems to themselves as well as to others. It s hard to analyze the exact causes behind irrational behavior, but we know that it is a manner of beh
41、avior that is not based on logic and reasoning. Irrational behavior is caused by various factors but two stand out. The first main factor that contributes to irrational behavior is uncontrolledemotions. Irrational people take offense or get angry before the actual situation occurs. They become anxio
42、us and express exaggerated emotions such as crying and shouting. They have unrealistic expectations, expecting everyone to like them and if someone does not, they feel angry and neglected. It is fairly common for peopleto show such signs of irrationality.Too much stress can also lead to irrational b
43、ehavior. In fact, these days, stress is the major cause of physical as well as mental problems. Stress creates feelings of anger, irritation and frustration. For instance, when you spend a stressful day in the office, it makes you anxious. You start releasing your frustration or stress by screaming
44、at your family members for small reasons like a badly prepared meal.That day you feel everything is wrong.In summary, uncontrolled emotions and too much stress can result in irrational behavior. To behave rationally is not an easy job because the behavior is internalized. However, to discover the so
45、urce of your irrationality will help you behave more rationally.U7Women s management styleWith a more progressive approach to diversity and a greater number of women being the leader of organizations, womentoday feel comfortable enough to use their natural management style at work. Their management
46、style tends to be more communicative and relationship-oriented.One example of their management style is being more communicative. Women usually have greater verbal ability and verbal comprehension than men. Their speaking skill is actually innate - born with it. Since they are usually more supportiv
47、e, more inclined to delegate responsibilities and more willing to foster the careers of their employees than their male counterparts, they communicate more efficiently. As a result, employees are happy to share ideas with their female boss and feel excited to have their voice heard in making decisio
48、ns.Another example ofwomen s natural management style is being morerelationship-oriented. As we well understand, women are more emotionally and spiritually intelligent. This gives them the potential to be a more understanding boss than men. They know how to motivate their employees with human touche
49、s such as “get well ” cards and “thank you” notes. They also know when to makeconcessions and accommodate their employees personal needs because they are not as rigid and stubborn as male bosses. When you decide to pursue further study, you will have to invest more time and energy in your academic performance and pay more attention to your research projects. Devoting to study will pave the way for

But if you choose to work, you should focus on developing your professional skills to prepare yourself for getting better employment opportunities or starting your own business.Secondly, your choice will also have an impact on your economic conditions. Whenyou are determined to continue your study, you have to pay tuition for your academic pursuit. It might be a heavy burden for students, particularly those from poverty-stricken families.
