16、encouragingly. The little dog led the man under a tree, past clumps of trees, to a desolate spot a half mile from the house. There Ted found his beloved Brownie alive, one of his hind legs crushed in a steel leghold trap. Horrified, Ted now wished he'd taken Spotty's earlier appeals seriousl

17、y. Then Ted noticed something quite remarkable. Spotty had done more than simply led Brownie's human owner to his trapped friend. In a circle around the injured dog, Ted found an array of dog food and table scraps which were later identified as the remains of every meal Spotty had been fed that

18、week! Spotty had been visiting Brownie regularly, in a single-minded quest to keep his friend alive by sacrificing his own comfort. Spotty had evidently stayed with Brownie to protect him from predators, snuggling with him at night to keep him warm and nuzzling him to keep his spirits up. Brownie

For instance, Spanish, which is an Indo-European language, is spoken throughout South and Central America, but originally it

27、 was spoken only in Europe.Another large language family is the Afro-Asiatic family. The Afro-Asiatic family includes most languages in the area of North Africa and the Middle East. Languages such as Arabic, which is spoken throughout the Middle East and many of the local languages of the Sahara Des

28、ert region are members of the same family.Another large family is Bantu. Bantu includes most of the languages spoken in central and southern Africa. There are over 250 of his family.A fourth large group of languages is the Sino-Tibetan family. The Sino-Tibetan family includes all the dialects of Chi

29、nese, which is perhaps the most widely used language in the world. There are nearly 800 million speakers of Chinese dialects. The Sino-Tibetan family also includes the languages of the southeast Asia, languages such as Vietnamese and Thai. Of course, not all the languages of east Asia belong to this

30、 family. Some languages such as Japanese seem to be completely unrelated to the Sino-Tibetan family.Still another major language family is Polynesian. The Polynesian languages are island languages. They are spoken on the islands around Indonesia, and on the many islands eastward all the way to Hawai

31、i, and on the islands westward all the way to Madagascar, off the east coast of Africa. Hawaiian an Indonesian are examples of Polynesian languages. Apparently, these languages were spread by travelers from island to island and then each group of islands developed its own individual language.These f

This defeats the main purpose of volunteering since volunteers are essentially getting paid through receiving scholarship, awards, or college ac

43、ceptances. Most teenagers are now volunteering to look good on college applications or to get certain awards, and the community is not necessarily benefiting. This is because the volunteers do not really try hard or give their beat shot at doing their job. They usually slack off, and instead of bene

44、fiting, they are hurting the cause by doing certain things incorrectly or incompletely. In order for the community to truly benefit, volunteers have to mentally and emotionally be involved, not just participate so that they get a few more volunteer hours. Some may believe that the increase in volunt

45、eers, no matter their intentions, still benefits the community. Even though many might believe that the job is still getting done since there are many more volunteers, higher quality work would be accomplished if all volunteers were people who are mentally and emotionally committed. More people do n

46、ot always mean that it is better, since it is better to have a smaller group of volunteers who actually try their hardest and are motivated rather than have people who slack off and really do not care to be there, wasting both the organizations time and their own. Although the amount of teenage volu
