1、加纳人是殖民历史的产物Ghanaians are products of a colonial history.但我们也深受自己本土传统所影响But we are really steeped in our local traditions.我们还保留着自己文化的生活节奏We still have our own indigenous rhythm.我们从来没有断绝与过去的连结We never lose connection with the past.这就是家园That's the homeland.我们在简单的房♥屋中成长 但当中有很多爱We grew up

17、 he should use.你没有忘本You didn't forget your roots.我小时候狂画画I drew nonstop as a child.因为我能相信我的画画本能 可以捕捉我当时的感觉'Cause I can trust my drawing instincts all the time to capture what I'm feeling.我并不是班中画画最好的那个学生 但我从不放弃I was not necessarily the best artist in class, but I never gave up,我真的令自己画画技巧有进

25、akened my own sense of identity and purpose.在美国,种族和共存的问题很严重In America, the issues of race and coexistence, it's so stark.我无法把自己跟非裔美国人朋友分隔开And I could not disassociate myself from my African American friends他们每天都要面对这些问题who had to deal with these issues on everyday basis.我开始寻找我的历史、我的种族 我找到我自己的非洲人特

42、的热带国家,座落在大西洋Ghana is a classic tropical country. It sits on the Atlantic Ocean.这里有草原、森林和沙漠We have grasslands, we have forest and we have desert.这一切都在这小国之中All in this small country.所以很多元化,这里的人和文化亦然So it's very diverse, as its people are, and the culture is.即使大家有着不同的文化Even though we're cultura
43、lly different,所有人都融和得十分好we're people that really mesh together well.大家都互相接受People are very tolerant of each other.加纳有一些传统的建筑方式In Ghana, you have traditional building practices that have been based而那是根据气候而做的 利用了很多林木、木材、竹子on climate conditions, using a lot of wood and timber, bamboo,或编织出来的材料or wov
44、en elements.有很多这些轻身、透气、通风良好的结构There was a lot of these sort of light, airy, well-ventilated structures全都是因应气候而出现that were developed as a reaction to the climate.传统的建筑方式是用土砖The traditional way of building: using the adobe brick.泥砖屋是用这些土砖所建成That's what they build the mud-brick houses from.因为泥土中有水份

53、opping by the roadside,看到村民在制♥造♥最基本的泥砖seeing the villagers making very basic mud bricks.然后我根据他们做法 制♥作♥出自己版本的泥砖And I then did my own version of what they were doing.尝试寻找一种适合的泥土去造砖Trying to find, one, the right type of clay to use.适合的水和泥土的比例The right water-t

55、design to create a unique experience?其中一个最大的考验是 找到一队合适的木匠So one of the big challenges was finding the right crew of carpenters.因为在加纳,我们都用混凝土建屋 所以我们会找石匠Because in Ghana, we build out of concrete, so we use masons.大部分木匠从来没有建过全间屋Most of the carpenters never built a whole house.所以要寻找合适的木匠 去组合这个木材结构To fi
56、nd the right carpenters to assemble this timber structure.虽然他们负责组合 他们也要亲自好好处理它们Though they assemble it, they'd have to treat it themselves.木材是天然的材料Timber, it's a natural material.未经处理的木会腐朽,容易受天气影响Left untreated, it can rot. It's susceptible to the weather.因为湿气可以令木材涨大或缩小It can expand and
