1.Identifyandusevocabularyandexpressionsfortalkingaboutfilmsandcinema-goinghabits.

2.Practiselistening,speaking,readingandwritingskills.

3.Workcollaborativelytocompleteavocabularyquiz.

4.Writeafilmreviewusingappropriatevocabularyandexpressions.

Time:

45minutes

Materials:

-Vocabularyquiz(printedorprojectedonboard)

-Handout:Filmreviewtemplate

-Audiorecordingofaconversationaboutgoingtothecinema(optional)

Procedure:

1.Warm-up(5minutes)

Startthelessonwithaquickdiscussionaboutfilmsthatthestudentshaveseenrecently.Askthemwhattheylikedordislikedaboutthefilms,andwhytheychosetowatchthem.Encouragethemtousedescriptivelanguageandexpressionsfortalkingaboutfilms.Forexample,"Isawareallyexcitingactionmovielastweekend.Ithadlotsofexplosionsandcarchases."

2.Vocabularyquiz(15minutes)

Dividetheclassintoteamsof3-4students.Giveeachteamacopyofthevocabularyquiz.Explainthattheyhavetomatchthewordsandexpressionsontheleft-handsidewiththedefinitionsontheright-handside.Thefirstteamtocompletethequizcorrectlywinsaprize(e.g.stickers,pencils).Allow10-15minutesforthestudentstoworkonthequiz,andthenaskeachteamtosharetheiranswerswiththeclass.

3.Listeningactivity(10minutes)

(Optional)Playanaudiorecordingofaconversationaboutgoingtothecinema.Askthestudentstolistenforspecificinformation,suchasthenamesofthecharacters,whatfilmtheywanttosee,andwhy.Afterplayingtherecording,askthestudentssomecomprehensionquestions,suchas"Whoisgoingtothecinema?","Whatfilmdotheywanttosee?",and"Whydotheyhavetohurry?"

4.Speakingactivity(10minutes)

Askthestudentstoworkinpairsandtaketurnsaskingandansweringquestionsabouttheircinema-goinghabits.Encouragethemtouseappropriatevocabularyandexpressions,suchas"Whatkindoffilmsdoyoulike?","Doyouprefertowatchfilmsatthecinemaorathome?",and"Whatdoyouthinkmakesagoodfilm?"Afterafewminutes,asksomepairstosharetheiranswerswiththeclass.

5.Writingactivity(15minutes)

GiveeachstudentacopyoftheFilmreviewtemplate.Explainthattheyhavetowriteafilmreviewforafilmtheyhaveseenrecently,usingappropriatevocabularyandexpressions.Encouragethemtoincludeasummaryoftheplot,theiropinionofthefilm,andanyinterestingormemorablescenes.Allow10-15minutesforthestudentstoworkontheirreviews,andthenasksomevolunteerstoreadtheirreviewstotheclass.

6.Conclusion(5minutes)

Procedure:

-DisplaypicturesofdifferentfarmanimalsontheIWBandelicitresponsesfromstudents

-Introducethevocabularylist:cow,horse,pig,chicken,goat,sheep,duck.

-Modelthelanguage:"Thisisacow.Cowsareoftenusedonthefarmfortheirmilkandmeat."

-Aftereachintroduction,askforquestionsandfeedbackfromtheclass

-Repeatwithalltheanimalsonthelist.

3.Practice(20minutes):

-Distributethematchingandlabelingactivitysheettostudents

-Studentsmatchthepicturesofanimalswiththelabelandthenfillintheblankswiththeappropriateuseorfunction
