AtPekingUniversity,dubbedtheHarvardofChinabyPresidentClintononhisrecenttriptoChins,Ihavebeenastudentstaroncampusduetomyoutstandingacademicperformances.WhenIenteredintothisuniversityin1995,Ialreadystoodoutamongmycropoffreshmen,havingwonatotalofscoresinthe1995NationalCollegeEntranceExaminationsthatwasthefifthhighestinBeijing.Aferventfanofmychosensubjectofstudies,IhaveprovedmyselfasmuchofanintellectualwizardinhigherlearningasIwasingradeschool,asdemonstratedbymygrades,whichplacedmeattheverytopinmyclassof23.MyGPAinthefirstthreeyearsis89.5,ararelyseenhighgradeinPKU.MyGPAforcorecoursesisover90,farhigherthanthatofmyfellowstudents.Iwastheonlyonewhoreceived100,thefullmark,intwotheoreticalcourses,theadvancedmathematicsandappreciationoffinearts.Inpracticalcourseslikecomputerdesign,mygradeswerealsohigh,sometimesashighas96.Inrecognitionofsuchstellarperformances,IhavebeennamedthetopstudentofthedepartmentandgrantedAcademic〔Excel〕lenceScholarshipsforthreeconsecutiveyears.IwaselectedtheStudentRepresentativeforAcademicAffairs.

ButIwasnobookworm.Tobroadenmyvisionandenrichmyknowledge,IalsochoseelectivesinsuchfieldsasRussianLiteratureandChineseHistory.Ihavespentconsiderablymoretimeinthelibrarythanmyclassmates.ThemoreIlearntoncampus,themoreIhopedtoseetherealworldoutsidetheivorytower.Sointhefirstsummerrecess,IappliedforatemporaryjobattheYaxingAdvertisingAgency,affiliatedwiththeChinaSportsDaily,whenmostofmyfriendsandclassmateswereenjoyingthemselvesathomeortravelingaround.Appointedastheaccountingexecutiveassistant,IhelpedorganizeapromotionaleventfortheAtlanticOlympicGames.ThisjobgavemeapictureofChina’sadvertisingindustry.

Inthefirstsemesteroftheacademicyear1996-1997,Iworkedpart-timewiththePKUTVNet,whereIwasofferedasplendidopportunitytoimprovemyabilityinjournalism.BeingaWeeklyNewsbroadcaster,Iregularlyfacedtensofthousandsofaudience,whichgreatlyincreasedmyconfidence.Ilearnttothinkindependentlyandcooperatewitotherswhendoingtheseriesreports“PKUstudents’life”,aprogramwhichwasmainlyaboutstudentrecipientsofprizesinnationalandinternationalcontests.Conductedwithcreativityanddiligence,theprogramwasplacedamongthebestprogramsinthePKUTVNet.

Unlikemostotherstudents,Ihaveneverstoppedworkingwhileinschool.FromSeptember1997on,IhavebeenworkingasaresearchassistantinCCTV’sQiantuAdvertisingCompany,thesixthbiggestinChina.Myresponsibilityistoestablishamarketdatabase.Difficultasitwas,Ihavehandleditwithoutaglitch.Ihavealsodonepart-timeworkhelpingtopromotethePresidentFoodCorporationandservedasaresearchassistantintheSDResearchAgency,aconsultingfirmspecializedinconductingmarketsurveysformultinationalsinChina.

IbelievethatmyEnglishproficiencyismorethansufficientformetoundertakethekindofstudiesthatIamseekingthroughthisapplication.IhavescoredwellinsuchEnglishlanguagetestsasTIEFLandGRE.Asabetterindicatorofmypracticallanguageskills,IjustfinishedtranslatinganEnglishbook“TheHistoryofGraphicDesign”intoChinesetogetherwithfourothertranslators,includingaprofessor.Mywriting,listeningandoralEnglishareasgoodasmyreading.

Thisapplicationisbeingmadewithasenseofmission.Asanundergraduate,Ihavelearnedthebasicsofadvertising,andIwouldbepromisinginChinaasagraduatefromoneofthecountry’sbestuniversities.WithaboomingadvertisingindustryinChina,Iwillsurelysecureawell-payingjob.ButIcannotbesatisfiedunlessIcanhelpmycountryasmuchIhelpmyself.Forthat,Iwishtoenhancemycapabilitiesbypursuinggraduatestudiesinsuchfieldsasmasscommunication,communicationstudiesormediastudiesatauniversityinNorthAmerica,wherethesegenresofstudiesaremuchmoredevelopedthaninChina.WhateverprogramIgetin,Iwouldlikemystudiestobefocusedonthetheoriesofandpracticesinadvertising.IfyoufindmequalifiedforadvancedstudiesinareasotherthanthoseIhavementioned,Iwouldgreatlyappreciateitifyoucouldletmeknowanysuggestionsthatyoumayhave.

留学德国要做好的预备

一、证件预备

到德国去读书以下的证件是肯定要预备好的：

1、学历证书;

2、德语证书;

3、录用〔通知书〕;

4、缴费单;

5、体检证明;

6、存款〔收据〕;

7、APS证书;

8、护照;

9、寸照等等。

二、行李预备

到德国去读书你的行李也是要提前预备好的，行李里面的东西有些是必需带的，有些是不必带的，这些都是要弄清晰的。

衣物：衣物就要看德国那边的天气怎么样，你平常在家里是穿的什么就带过去，这也没有许多的讲究，对于正装你也可以带一套过去。

日常用品：也是带你平常用的，可以带几条备用的毛巾，像牙刷、牙膏、还有沐浴露、洗发水不用带许多，就带几天用的就可以，等到你把学校四周的环境熟识了再去买也是可以的。

医药品：在国外最应当要留意的就是自己的身体健康问题，你可以把常见的药品带过去，也不用带许多，有些会用不少，到时候过期了也是铺张。

三、心理预备

德国的生活方式跟国内有很大的不同，假如要到德国去读书就要提前了解他们的生活习惯，这样才能让你在德国的时候更快的适应。你到德国去读书你可能是单独一个人去的，你要忍受住在那里可能没有亲人和伴侣的孤独。

四、语言预备

德国高校的许多专业都是使用德语来教学的，所以你在国内的时候就要把德语学习好，还有德语的相关证书也要考到，而且在德国他们许多都是用德语来进行沟通的。假如你想好了要去德国读书的话就要提前把德语的基础给学习好。

五、住宿

德国的高校也有同学公寓，但是德国高校的宿舍同样也是要提前去申请的，由于德国高校的宿舍是满意不了这么多的同学的，你只能提前去申请来争取住到学校的宿舍。假如你没有申请到或者是自己租房的话，也要在去德
