Overview

LibFredo6isasharedlibraryusedbysomeofmyplugins.Theideaistoprovideallscriptswithcommonfeatures,suchas andtoolbarmanagement,languagetranslation,defaultparametersandotherutilities.

LibFredo6isNOTausablepluginbyitselfhowever.

Asauser,youshouldnotcaretoomuchaboutLibFredo6,exceptforafewthingsthatarewortowingwhenusingmyplugins.Thisisthepurposeofthis .However,youcanperfectlyignoreallthat,aslongasyouinstalltherightversionofLibFredo6requiredbymyplugins,orthelatestversion(recommended).

Veryoften,whenuserssignalthatmyscripts(likeFredoScaleorRoundCorner)donotappearordonotwork,itisbecausetheydidnotinstallLibFredo6,asspecified.

WhatLibFredo6brings

Versioning

LibFredo6isversioned.ThefirstversioneverpublishedofLibFredo6is3.0(previousversionswereactuallyjustasinglefilerubyfilecalledLibTraductor.rb).

Forconvenience,theversionipressedasadecimalinteger.So3.0isactuallyreferredtoas‘30’(and3.1willbe‘31’).

ImaintainbackwardcompatibilitysothatifyouinstallthelatestversionofLibFredo6,itshouldworkfinewithanyofthescriptsusingit,eveniftheywerepublishedalongwithearlierversionsofLibFredo6.

Installation

LibFredo6supportsSketchupversions5(>=5.160),6andabove(andPro).

Toinstallit,youshouldunzipthefileyoudownloaded(LibFredo6_xx.zipinpr iple)intotheSketchupPluginsfolder.Thisoperationshoulddothefollowing:

CopyonescriptfileLibFredo6.rbtotheSketchupPluginsfolder:

Createasub-folderLIBFREDO6_Dir_xx,containingthelibraryfiles,theiconsandcursorfiles,languagefiles,aswellastheationinPDFformat.

InWinzip,makesureyoudoaSelectAll,andthenExtractinthePluginsfolder,answeringYEStoallpromptsforfileoverwriting,sothatyoucreateorproperlycopythefolderhierarchy.

Ifyouareunsureoftheunzipoperation,doitinaneutralfolder,and,onceyouhavecheckedthatyouhavereconstructedthefootprintasshownabove,copythefileandfoldertotheSUPluginsdirectory.

Note:Onceyouhaveinstalledanewversion,youcansafelyremovethepreviousones.Say,ifyouinstallLibFredo3.7,youcanremovethefolderLIBFREDO6_Dir_36fromtheSUPlugindirectory.

LibFredo6utilities

LibFredo6createsa entry“LibFredo6Settings….”intheSketchup‘Windows’

.Itprovidessomeconfigurationparameterscommontoallplugins.

Settingthelanguagepreferences

Thedialogboxallowssettinguponeorseverallanguagepreferences.ThissettingispersistentacrossSketchupsessions.

Bydefault,itwillsetupthelanguageofyouroperatingsystem,ifrecognized.

Notethatlanguagepreferencesareusedascade.Ifyouchoose[HU,DE,FR],itmeansthatforeachstringitwilltakethefirsttranslationfoundinHungarian,theninGerman,theninFrenchandtheninthedefaultlanguage(whichhappenstobeEnglish).

DefaultParameters

LibFredo6maintainsafewparameterswhicharecommontoallplugins,suchastheInferencecolors.Youcanmodifythemviathedialogbox“DefaultParameters…”.

CheckPluginsforUpdate

Asofv3.7,LibFredo6cancheckthestatusofthepluginsversionsonline.Thisconcernsmyownplugins,butitisopentootherscriptauthors.

AccesstotheCheckForUpdatedialogboxisdoneviathe

Windows>LibFredo6Settings>CheckPluginsforUpdate.

Thedialogboxdisysthestatusofthepluginsatlastcheck(dateisindicatedonthetoprightofthewindow).

Justclickonthebutton togetthenewstatus.Indeed,youneedaworkingconnectiontoInte .Hereisanexample,forillustration:

Theremaybe4cases(eachwithadefinedcolor)forthepluginstatus:

ThelinkInfo(ifpresent)allowsyounavigatingtothewgewherethepluginwaspublished.Justclickonitanditwillopenabrowserwindowpointingtotherightpage.

ReminderforCheckingUpdates

InLibFredo6v3.7,theremindermechanismispassive.Itisjustawaytowarntheuserofcheckingpluginsforupdateacertaindefinedtime.Thereisnounderlyingrealcheckonline(Iwillprobablyintroduceitinanextversion).

Youcansetthenextdateforbeingremindedtodoacheckforupdate.ThiswilltaketheformofasmallwindowwithaRubyiconwhichwillpopupafewsecondsafteryoustartSketchup.

IfyouclickontheRuby,itwillopenthedialogbox.Ifyoucloseit,thenyouwillberemindedthenextday,whenyoustartSketchup.

Inordertosetthenextdateforchecking,setthenumberofdaysintheappropriatefieldatthebottomleftofthedialogbox.Notethattheexactdateisshowninthetooltip.

Thedefaultvalueis15days.ThisparameterissavedacrossSUsessions,butisspecifictoeachversionoftheSketchupapplications.

Ifyouenter0Day,thenitmeansthatthereminderwillappeareverytimeyoustartSketchup

Ifyouenter999Days,thenyouwillneverbereminded

ContributingtoLanguageTranslation

[ThissectionisonlyforthosewhowishtocontributetotranslationofLibFredo6itselfandmyPlugins]

Allstringsarepackagedinexternalfilesthatcanbetranslatedwithoutchangingthesourcecode.

Languagesaredesignatedbytheir2-characterISOcode.SoFRforFrench,DEforGerman,ZHfor,etc….

ThereisaconceptofDefaultLanguage(usuallyEnglish),whichisdefinedinthesourcecodeitself(sothattherearealwaysvalidstringstodisy).Ifthetranslationforastringinagivenlanguageisnotfound,thenthepluginwilldefaulttothisdefaultlanguage.

TheconventionforLanguageFilenameis<Plugin_name>_XX.lang,whereXXistheISOcodeofthelanguage.ThefilesmustbelocatedinthePluginsubfolder.Forinstance,thePluginScaleludesafileScale_FR.langinthefolder

ISOandUTFencodingaresupported.Normally,itispossibletotranslateintoRussian,,Japanese,Korean,etc…

Thetranslationprocessissafe.Youarenotdtotranslateeverything.And,yourcontributiontothetranslationwillbepacrossupgradesoftheplugin.

UsingtheTranslationDialogBox

BelowistheTranslationBoxforLibFredo6.YounormallyhaveoneforeachpluginthatwilluseLibFredo6.

First,selectthetargetlanguageusingtheComboboxonthetop-leftofthedialogbox.Ifyourlanguageisnotpredefined,youcancreateanewone,byselecting“NewLanguage…”.Thiswillshowanotherdialogboxwhereyoucandefhenewlanguage:ISOcode,nativenameandEnglishname.

TheDefaultLanguagestringsareshowninBlue,withanarrow.Youcanhowevershowotherlanguagestoo,ifithelps,bytytheirISOcodesseparatedbyspaceinthefieldonthetoprightofthedialogbox.

Youhavethenjusttotypethetranslationinthefields.

YoudoNOTneedtoputbackslashinfrontofdiacriticcharacters(accentuated).Justtypethestringnaturallyinyourlanguage.

Youcanusesinglequote(‘).
