CultureNote英语称呼外国人为“alien或foreigner”，但这都不是很好的说法。有永久居留权的人所持的绿卡称为“alienregistrationcard”，却很容易让人想到电影“外星人”，放佛是外国人都是从外星来的。

CultureNote其实外国人也不喜欢被称为“外人”，虽然英语译为foreigner，但听起来总有点排外的感觉。最好的方法是事先询问对方的出身地再以American、British、German等国别称呼。如果不分国籍的话可以一致称为“peoplefromothercountries”，这么一来就能保持中立，不伤害任何人。

CultureNote国人常会说“我们中国人”（WeChinese），这种说法在不懂中文的人听来还是不舒服。因为“我们”的说法好像排除了所有其他国籍的人，反过来说：“YouAmericans”（你们这些美国人），听起来也让人觉得不舒服，英语虽然常在国籍之前加“we或you”，但是听起来多少都有刻意区别的意思，应该说theJapanese、Americans、someAmericans比较好。
