AugustPullman,knownasAuggie,isa10-year-oldboywithafacialdeformitythatcausedhimtoundergo27surgeries.He'shomeschooledbyhismother,Isabel,butaftermuchdeliberation,hisparentsdecidedtoenrollhiminaprivateschoolcalledBeecherPrep.Onthefirstdayofschool,Auggieisnervousbutexcitedtomakenewfriends.

PartTwo:Via

Auggie'ssister,Olivia,orVia,talksaboutherfamily,herrelationshipwithherbrother,andherexperiencesinschool.SherevealsthattheirfamilyhasalwaysrevolvedaroundAuggie'scondition,andshe,attimes,feelsoverlookedbyherparents.Also,sheexplainshowsheconstantlyfeelsguilty,especiallyforfeelinglikeshewantstodistanceherselffromAuggieattimes.

PartThree:Summer

SummerisastudentinAuggie'sclassandbecomeshisfirstfriend.Theybondoverlunch,wheresheignoreseveryoneelse'sreactiontoAuggie'sfaceandseeshimbeyondhisappearance.Auggieisgratefulforherfriendship,andshebecomeshisallythroughouttheschoolyear.

PartFour:Jack

JackisanotherstudentinAuggie'sclass,andheinitiallytriestoavoidAuggie.However,heeventuallystartstobecomefriendswithhim,inpartbecauseofSummer'sinfluence.JackinvitesAuggietohisbirthdayparty,butthingsgowrongwhenJulian,oneofthepopularkids,insultsAuggie,andJackdoesn'tdefendhim.

PartFive:Justin

JustinisVia'sboyfriend,andshesharesherfeelingsandeventsfromthepastyearwithhim.JustinhelpsViarealizethatherfeelingsarevalidandthatit'sokaytowanttohavealifebeyondAuggie'scondition.Viadecidestotakeanactiveroleinherschool'stheaterprogramandauditionsfortheleadroleintheupcomingplay.
