(II)ElementsofaSpeech(15minutes)

Explainthattheintroductioniscrucialasitgrabstheaudience'sattention,introducesthetopic,andprovidessomebackgroundinformationifnecessary.Useexamplestoillustratedifferentwaysofstartingaspeech,suchasaskingarhetoricalquestion(e.g.,"Haveyoueverwonderedwhatthefutureofourplanetwillbelike?"),tellingarelevantanecdote(e.g.,"Onceuponatime,therewasasmalltownwherepeople'slivesweregreatlyaffectedbyaparticularenvironmentalissue..."),ormakingastartlingstatement(e.g.,"Everyyear,millionsoftonsofplasticwasteenterouroceans,threateningthesurvivalofcountlessmarinespecies.").

2.Body

Emphasizethatthebodyofthespeechiswherethemainideasaredeveloped.Teachstudentstoorganizetheirthoughtsintologicalparagraphs,witheachparagraphfocusingononemainpoint.Usetransitionsbetweenparagraphstoensurethesmoothflowofthespeech.Forexample,wordsandphraseslike"firstly,""secondly,""inaddition,""moreover,""however,"etc.canbeused.

Discusstheimportanceofbodylanguageinspeechdelivery.Teachstudentsaboutappropriatepostures(standingstraight,shouldersrelaxed),eyecontact(lookingatdifferentpartsoftheaudience),gestures(openandnaturalgesturestoemphasizepoints),andfacialexpressions(smiling,showingappropriateemotions).Demonstratethesebodylanguageelementswhilegivingashortimpromptuspeech,andthenaskstudentstopracticeinpairs,observingandcorrectingeachother'sbodylanguage.

(IV)SpeechWritingPractice(25minutes)

1.Assignaspeechtopictothestudents,suchas"TheImportanceofReadingintheDigitalAge."

(V)GroupPresentationsandPeerEvaluation(30minutes)

1.Dividethestudentsintogroupsof45.Eachgroupmembertakesturnspresentingtheirspeechoutlinebasedontheassignedtopic.

2.Whileeachstudentispresenting,theothergroupmemberslistencarefullyandtakenotes.Aftereachpresentation,thegroupmembersgivefeedbackusingthefollowingcriteria:

3.Eachgroupthenselectsoneortwoofthebestpresentedoutlinestobesharedwiththewholeclass.

(VI)ClassFeedbackandSummary(15minutes)

1.Invitetherepresentativesofeachgrouptopresenttheselectedoutlinestothewholeclass.

2.Provideoverallfeedbackonthestudents'performance,highlightingthestrengthsandareasforimprovement.Forthestrengths,givespecificpraisetoencouragestudents.Fortheareasforimprovement,offerpracticalsuggestionsonhowtoenhancetheirspeechwritinganddeliveryskills.
