TYPESOFREEMINERALS

REEdepositsaredefinedbytheirmineralhosts,whichreflectthegeochemicalandtectonic

-Bastnäsite(afluorocarbonate)isthedominantmineralhostglobally,primarilyfoundin

carbonatitedepositslikeMountainPassandBayanObo,andaccountsfor70%-75%ofREEreserves.BastnäsiteispredominantlyrichinLREEs.

-Monazite(aphosphatemineral)isthe

nextmostsignificant,oftenextractedasabyproductofheavymineralsandsmining,

withnotabledepositsinAustralia,India,andBrazil;italsocontainsmainlyLREEsbutcanhavesignificantthoriumcontent,posing

-Xenotime(anyttriumphosphate)isaprimarysourceofyttriumandHREEs,oftenfoundwithtinandtungstenores,withsignificantdepositsinMalaysiaandChina,contributingaround5%toreserves.

-IACs,predominantlyfoundinsouthernChinaandSoutheastAsia,areparticularlyimportantforHREEs.

-Othermineralslikeloparite(atitanate,

mainlyinRussia’sKolaPeninsula,LREE-rich)

andeudialyte(acomplexsilicate,inRussiaandGreenland,LREEandyttrium)contributelessthan5%collectively.
