学术英语写作中文本导向词块的对比研究——理工科本科生与专业学者的实证对比Abstract:Thisstudyaimstoinvestigatethedifferencesintheuseoftext-orientedwordblocks(TOWBs)betweenundergraduatestudentsmajoringinscienceandengineering,aswellasprofessionalscientists.Theresearchemploysamixed-methodsapproach,combiningquantitativedatafromsurveysandqualitativedatafrominterviewswithbothgroups.ThefindingsrevealthatwhileundergraduatestudentsoftenrelyonTOWBsforcohesionandclarity,professionalsutilizethemmorestrategicallyforargumentationandevidenceintegration.ThestudyalsohighlightstheimportanceofcontextualunderstandingandspecializedvocabularyinTOWBusage,suggestingpotentialimprovementsforbothstudentandexpertwriters.Introduction:Academicwritingisacriticalcomponentofthescientificenterprise,requiringnotonlytechnicalproficiencybutalsoeffectivecommunicationskills.Onesuchskillistheuseoftext-orientedwordblocks(TOWBs),whicharedesignedtoenhancethecoherenceandclarityofwrittenexpression.However,theapplicationofTOWBsvariessignificantlyacrossdifferentacademicdisciplinesandlevelsofexpertise.ThisstudyaimstoshedlightonthisissuebycomparingtheuseofTOWBsamongundergraduatestudentsmajoringinscienceandengineeringwiththoseofprofessionalscientists.Methodology:Toachievethisobjective,weconductedamixed-methodsstudyinvolvingtwophases.Inthefirstphase,weadministeredasurveytoasampleofundergraduatestudentsinscienceandengineeringprogramsacrossvariousuniversitiesintheUnitedStates.ThesurveycollectedquantitativedataonthefrequencyandtypesofTOWBsusedbythesestudentsintheiracademicwriting.Additionally,weconductedsemi-structuredinterviewswithasubsetofthesestudentstogatherqualitativeinsightsintotheirperceptionsofTOWBsandtheirwritingpractices.Inthesecondphase,weselectedagroupofprofessionalscientistswhowererecognizedfortheircontributionsintheirrespectivefields.WeconductedsimilarsurveysandinterviewswiththeseexpertstocomparetheirTOWBusagepatternswiththoseoftheundergraduatestudents.Results:Theresultsofourstudyrevealedseveralkeyfindings.Firstly,theundergraduatestudentsfrequentlyemployedTOWBstomaintaintheflowofideasandensureclarityintheirwriting.TheyfoundTOWBsparticularlyusefulwhenintroducingnewconceptsorarguments,astheyallowedthemtoprovidecleardefinitionsorexplanations.Secondly,theprofessionalsdemonstratedamoresophisticatedunderstandingofTOWBs,utilizingthemnotonlyforcohesionbutalsoforargumentationandevidenceintegration.TheyfoundTOWBsparticularlyusefulwhenpresentingcomplextheoriesorarguments,astheyallowedthemtoorganizetheirideaslogicallyandeffectively.Moreover,theprofessionalshighlightedtheimportanceofcontextualunderstandingandspecializedvocabularyinTOWBusage.TheybelievedthatusingTOWBsappropriatelyrequiredadeepunderstandingofthesubjectmatterandtheabilitytoselectthemostsuitablewordstoconveyspecificmeanings.Discussion:Thecomparisonbetweenundergraduateandprofessionalscientists'TOWBusagesuggestsseveralimplicationsforbothgroups.Forundergraduatestudents,thestudyhighlightstheneedforfurthertraininginTOWBusage,particularlyintermsofdevelopingadeeperunderstandingofthesubjectmatterandtheabilitytoselectappropriatewords.Italsoemphasizestheimportanceofcontinuouspracticeandfeedbackinordertoimprovetheirwritingskills.Forprofessionals,thestudysuggeststhatTOWBscanbeapowerfultoolforenhancingthequalityoftheirwriting.Byemployingthemstrategically,theycancreatemoreimpactfulandpersuasiveargumentsandpresentations.However,italsounderscorestheneedforongoinglearninganddevelopmentinordertostayup-to-datewiththelatesttrendsandtechniquesinacademicwriting.Conclusion:Inconclusion,thisstudyprovidesvaluableinsightsintotheuseoftext-orientedwordblocks(TOWBs)inacademicwriting.WhileundergraduatestudentsoftenrelyonTOWBsforcohesionandclarity,professionalsutilizethemmorestrategicallyforargumentationandevidenceintegration.ThestudyalsohighlightstheimportanceofcontextualunderstandingandspecializedvocabularyinTOWBusage,suggestingpotentialimprovementsforbothstudentandexpertwriters.FutureresearchshouldcontinuetoexplorethenuancesofTOWBusageandhowtheycanbeeffectivelyincorporatedintodifferentwritingstylesandcontexts.Inconclusion,thisstudyprovidesvaluableinsightsintotheuseoftext-orientedwordblocks(TOWBs)inacademicwriting.WhileundergraduatestudentsoftenrelyonTOWBsforcohesionandclarity,professionalsutilizethemmorestrategicallyforargumentationandevidenceintegration.ThestudyalsohighlightstheimportanceofcontextualunderstandingandspecializedvocabularyinTOWBusage,suggestingpotentialimprovementsforbothstudentandexpertwriters.FutureresearchshouldcontinuetoexplorethenuancesofTOWBusageandhowtheycanbeeffectivelyincorporatedintodifferentwritingstylesandcontexts.ThisstudyhasshedlightonthedifferencesintheuseofTOWBsbetweenundergraduatestudentsmajoringinscienceandengineeringandprofessionalscientists.ItisevidentthatwhilebothgroupsutilizeTOWBsfor
