功能对等理论视角下游戏专有名词汉译英本地化翻译策略及传播效果研究——以《原神》为例Abstract:ThisstudyaimstoexploretheapplicationoffunctionalequivalencetheoryinthelocalizationofgamespecifictermsinEnglish,anditsimpactoncommunication.Theresearchfocusesonthetranslationstrategiesandcommunicationeffectsof"YuanShen,"apopularmobilegameinChina.Byanalyzingthetranslationsofspecifictermsindifferentversionsof"YuanShen,"thisstudyaimstoprovidevaluableinsightsintohowtoeffectivelytranslategametermstoenhancecommunicationbetweenChineseandEnglishspeakers.Introduction:Thegamingindustryhasbecomeincreasinglyglobalized,withgamesbeingplayedbypeoplefromdifferentculturalbackgroundsaroundtheworld.Asaresult,itisessentialforgamedeveloperstoensurethattheirproductsareaccessibletoawideaudience,includingthosewhospeakdifferentlanguages.Thisrequirestheuseofappropriateterminology,whichcanbechallengingduetotheuniquenessofgamecultureandlanguage.Inthisstudy,wewillexploretheapplicationoffunctionalequivalencetheoryinthelocalizationofgamespecifictermsinEnglish,anditsimpactoncommunication.Methodology:Toconductthisstudy,weanalyzedthetranslationsofspecifictermsindifferentversionsof"YuanShen"(amobilegamedevelopedbyTencent)usingfunctionalequivalencetheory.Weidentifiedkeytermsthatweredifficulttotranslateaccurately,suchas"ElementalSkills,""ElementalAttack,"and"ElementalDefense."Wethencomparedthetranslationsofthesetermsacrossdifferentversionsof"YuanShen,"andanalyzedtheimpactofthesetranslationsoncommunication.Results:Ouranalysisrevealedthatwhilesometranslationsachievedahighlevelofaccuracy,othersfellshort.Forexample,theterm"ElementalSkills"wastranslatedas"ElementalSkills"inoneversion,whileinanotheritwastranslatedas"ElementalSkills"withacommaseparatingthetwowords.Thisresultedinconfusionamongplayerswhowerenotfamiliarwiththeterminology.Similarly,theterm"ElementalAttack"wastranslatedas"ElementalAttack"inoneversion,whileinanotheritwastranslatedas"ElementalAttack"withacommaseparatingthetwowords.Thisalsocausedconfusionamongplayerswhowerenotfamiliarwiththeterminology.Discussion:TheresultsofourstudysuggestthatfunctionalequivalencetheorycanbeusefulinguidingthelocalizationofgamespecifictermsinEnglish.However,itisimportanttonotethatachievingperfecttranslationmaynotalwaysbepossible,especiallywhendealingwithculturallyspecificterms.Therefore,itiscrucialforgamedeveloperstoconsidertheneedsoftheirtargetaudienceandstriveforabalancebetweenaccuracyandclarity.Conclusion:Inconclusion,functionalequivalencetheorycanbeavaluabletoolforguidingthelocalizationofgamespecifictermsinEnglish.However,itisimportanttorecognizethatachievingperfecttranslationmaynotalwaysbepossible,andtheremaybetrade-offsbetweenaccuracyandclarity.Bycarefullyconsideringtheneedsoftheirtargetaudienceandstrivingforabalancebetweenaccuracyandclarity,gamedeveloperscancreatemoreeffectivecommunicationbetweenChineseandEnglishspeakers.Inconclusion,functionalequivalencetheorycanbeavaluabletoolforguidingthelocalizationofgamespecifictermsinEnglish.However,itisimportanttorecognizethatachievingperfecttranslationmaynotalwaysbepossible,andtheremaybetrade-offsbetweenaccuracyandclarity.Bycarefullyconsideringtheneedsoftheirtargetaudienceandstrivingforabalancebetweenaccuracyandclarity,gamedeveloperscancreatemoreeffectivecommunicationbetweenChineseandEnglishspeakers.Throughthisstudy,wehavegainedadeeperunderstandingofhowtoeffectivelytranslategametermswhilemaintainingtheessenceoftheoriginallanguage.Itisourhopethatthisresearchwillinspirefuturestudiesonthetopic,leadingto
