DepartmentofEducation

Topreparelearnersandworkerswiththeessentialskills,knowledge,andpersonalqualitiestheyneedfortheirlivesandcareers.TheDepartmentofEducationworkswithYukonFirstNationsgovernments,partners,andcommunitiestodevelopanddeliverevidence-basedprogramsandinitiativesrelatedtoearlylearningandchildcare,publicschools,andpost-secondaryeducation,consistentwiththeYukonEducationAct,ChildCareAct,andotherrelevantlegislation.

DeputyMinister'sOffice

Providesexecutivemanagementandstrategicdirectionforthedepartment.

EducationSupportServices

Toprovideleadershipandstrategicsupportservicestothedepartmentintheareasofcommunications,finance,andhumanresources.

Communications

Workstoengageandbuildtrustamongourpartnersineducation:parents,students,schoolcouncils,YukonFirstNations,themedia,andthepublic.Areasofresponsibilityincludestrategiccommunicationsplanning,mediarelations,websitemanagement,issuesmanagement,advertising,publications,andliaisingwithschoolcouncils.

Finance

Supportsandmaintainsallthedepartment’sfinancialresources,includingbudgeting,fiscalyear-endfinancialplanning,accounting,andriskmanagement.

HumanResources

ProvidesafullrangeofhumanresourcemanagementprogramsandservicestotheDepartmentofEducationincludingsupportandguidancetodepartmentalmanagersandsupervisors.

AdministrationandSupport

Tosupportquality,safe,andinclusiveeducationprogramstostudentsinKindergartentoGrade

12.ThisincludesthestaffingandoperationofpublicschoolsintheYukon,andservicesandlearningsupportsforstudents.

Tomanageschoolfacilitiesandstudenttransportationservicestoensurestudentsarelearninginsafeandmodernenvironments.

FacilitiesandTransportation

Responsibleforfacilitiesplanningandmaintenance,healthandsafety,transportationtoandfromschoolforstudents,andWhitehorseschoolcustodialservices.

StudentSupportServices

Deliversservicestostudentswithspecialneeds.Coversareassuchaspsychologicalservices,speechlanguageprograms,occupationaltherapy,sensoryimpairments,socialandemotionalsupport,andpositivebehaviourinterventionsupport.

TechnologyandStudentInformation

TechnologyandStudentInformationmanagesthestudentinformationsystem;administersthedepartment’sprivacymanagement,ATIPP,andrecordsmanagementprograms;andisresponsibleforResourceServicesanddigitaltoolsandcontentforschools.

SchoolAuthorities

Todeliverquality,safe,andinclusiveeducationprogramstostudentsinKindergartentoGrade

12.ThisincludesthestaffingandoperationofpublicschoolsintheYukon,andservicesandlearningsupportsforstudents.

PolicyandPartnerships

Tostrategicallydesignandcoordinate,througheffectivepartnershipswithYukonFirstNationsandotherpartnersineducation,thestandards,procedures,andqualityassurancemeasuresrequiredforeffectivedeliveryofearlylearningandchildcareprogramming,Yukon'sK-12curriculum,post-secondary,apprenticeshipandtrainingprograms,andstudentfinancialassistance.

Toprovidestrategicadvice,systemanalytics,informationtechnologyservices,research,policy,resources,andtrainingtosupportdepartmentstaff,servicesproviders,partners,andstakeholdersintheeffectivedeliveryoftheseprograms.

TrainingPrograms

Administersarangeofprogramstosupportpost-secondaryeducation,includingtheYukonGrant,StudentTrainingAllowance,YukonExcellenceAwards,CanadaStudentLoansandGrants,StudentTrainingandEmploymentProgram(STEP),andtheYukonSummerJobsProgram.Alsoadministersprogramsforthetrainingandcertificationofapprentices.

CurriculumandAssessment

ProvidesK-12curriculum,resources,andprogramdeliverysupport.Supportseducatorswithclassroominstructionandstudentassessmentandevaluationtools.Evaluatescurriculumresourcesandstrategies,programs,andassessmentpracticestoensurebestresearchedpracticesareencouraged.Developsandcommunicatesrecommendations,policy,andproceduresrelatedtocurriculumandassessmentandcommunicatesthistotheSchoolsBranchforimplementationinschools.

EarlyLearningandChildCare

Deliversprogramsandprovidesservicesthathelpfamilieswithyoungchildrenandinfants,earlylearningandchildcareprograms,andcurrentandfutureearlychildhoodeducators.TheseservicesincludetheYukonEarlyLearningandChildCareFundingProgramaswellaschildcaresubsidies.

FrenchPrograms

ProvidesKindergartentoGrade12Frencheducationcurriculum,assessment,andculturalsupportthroughthefollowingprograms:FrenchImmersion,IntensiveFrench,CoreFrench,andOptionplus.

InformationTechnologyandSupportServices

Supportsandmaintainsthedepartment’sinformationtechnologyinfrastructure(hardware,networks,systems,security).

PerformanceandAnalytics

Supportsthedepartmentanditseducationpartnersbyprovidingdataanalysis,forecasting,andreporting.

Policy,PlanningandEvaluation

Overseespolicydevelopmentandstrategicplanningandprovidesstrategicadvicetothedepartmentatalllevels.Alsoprovideslegislativesupportservices.

FirstNationsInitiatives

Toadvisealldepartmentalunitsandschoolsontheachievementofreconciliationgoals.

TostrategicallyfosterandcoordinateeffectivepartnershipswithYukonFirstNationsgovernmentstosupportYukon-wideandcommunityspecificjointpriori
