Someday a stranger will read your e-mail without your permission or scan the Websites youve visited. Or perhaps someone will casually glance through your credit

、card purchases or cell phone bills to find out your shopping preferences or calling habits.,为获得“一个中心”,首段较短时全部阅读。 Privacy,In fact, its likely some of these things have already happened to you. Who would watch you without your permission? It might be a spous

、e, a girl friend, a marketing company, a boss, a cop, or a criminal. Whoever it is, they will see you in a way you never intended to be seen - the 21st century equivalent of being caught naked.,只读斜体部分,结合刚才总结的主题词,表明本段主题为进一步延伸主题:21世纪的隐私保护更加困难。,Psychologists tell us boundaries are healthy, that its imp

、ortant to reveal yourself to friends, family and lovers in stages, at appropriate times. But few boundaries remain. The digital bread crumbs (碎屑)you leave everywhere make it easy for strangers to reconstruct who you are, where you are and what you like. In some cases, a simple Google search can reve

、al what you think. Like it or not, increasingly we live in world where you simply cannot keep a secret.,再读本段首尾句,看到作者从心理学家角度分析为什么难保护隐私。 ,The key question is: does that matter? For many Americans, the answer apparently is “no”. When opinions polls ask Americans about privacy, most s

、ay they are concerned about losing it. A survey found an overwhelming pessimism about privacy, with 60 percent of respondents saying they feel their privacy is “slipping away, and that bothers me”.,红笔部分表明美国人还是很重视隐私保护问题的。 ,But people say one thing and do another. Only a tiny

、 fraction of Americans change any behaviors in an effort to preserve their privacy. Few people turn down a discount at tollbooths(收费站) to avoid using the EZ-Pass system that can track automobile movements. And few turn down supermarket loyalty cards. Privacy economist Alessandro Acquisti has run a s

、eries of tests that reveal people will surrender personal information like Social security Numbers just to get their hands on a pitiful 50-cents-off coupon(优惠劵)。 ,But privacy does matter - at least sometimes. Its like health: when you have it, you dont notice it. Onl

、y when its gone do you wish youd done more to protect it 57. What does the author means by saying“the 21st century equivalent of being caught naked.”(line 3-4, Para. 2) A. criminals are easily caught on the spot with advanced technolo

、gy. B. people tend to more frank with each other in the information age. C. in the 21st century people try every means to look into others secrets. D. peoples personal information is easily accessed without their knowledge.,句意推论题, 无需定位,直接到第二段相应点寻找答案。

,58. What would psychologists advise on the relationships between friends? A. there should be a distance even between friends. B. there should be fewer disputes between friends. C. friends should always

、be faithful to each other. D. friends should open their hearts to each other.,主语定位词。 ,59. Why does the author say “we live in a world where you simply cannot keep a secret”?(

、 line 5, Para. 3) A. there are always people who are curious about others affairs. B. many research engines profit by revealing peoples identities. C. people leave traces around when using modern technology. D. modern society has finally evolved into an open society.,又一句意推论题,同样不需定位。

,60. What do most Americans do with regard to privacy protection? A. they talk a lot but hardly do anything about it. B. they rely more and more on electronic devices. C. the

、y use various loyalty cards for business transactions. D. they change behaviors that might disclose their identity.,此题需要定位,同样为主语定位,Most Americans特征明显,根据顺序原则直接定位到many Americans,但该题难度较大,因为原文出现明显转折,答案实际是在BUT后面出现,这里有新思想出现。 A选项对应people say one thing and do another. 61. According to the passage, privacy is like health in that _. A. its importance is rarely understood B. it is something that can easily be lost. C. people will make every effort to keep it. D. people dont cherish it until they lost it.
