4、ggest holidays of the year is christmas day, december 25. its the day christians celebrate the birthday of jesus christ. the holiday has more than just religious significance, however. it is traditionally a time of peace and harmony among people. houses and stores are decorated with bright lights an

5、d the traditional symbols of the holiday and winter: pine trees, holly, gold and silver tars, etc. a common sight at christmastime is a snowman, a large figure of a man made from snow. the christmas season is a time to visit friends and neighbors and to enjoy cookies, candy, and other food with them

7、sing. they smile and they kiss. in the english language, there many expressions using the word, “mouth”. but some of them are not so nice. for example, if you say bad things about a person, the person might protest and say: “do not bad mouth me.” sometimes people say something to a friend or family

8、member that they late regret because it hurt that persons feeling or they tell the person something they were not supposed to tell. the speaker might say: “i really put my foot in my mouth this time”. if this happened the speaker might feel “down in the mouth”, in other words, he might felt sad for

9、saying the wrong thing.2 how can we achieve good pronunciation?l practice is the key (listen and imitate)l good/ correct instruction (guidance)l a start-from-zero attitudel the sooner the better, the more the better, the harder the better3. course content english phonemes: correct discription and pr

10、onunciation stress of english words and sentences: basic rules and functions english natural connected speech: assimilation, ellision, liaison, loss of plosion, etc. english intonation: structures, functions and usage4. course arrangement (features and requiremments): l teaching hours: 26 periods in

11、 13 weeksl class size: 2 groups in each class, 20 students each timel class activities: listen and imitate, group workl assement: oral test at the end of term 70%+ quiz in each lesson 20%+ class performance 10%5. basic concepts (letters, phonemes, organs of speech) activity 1.4 (10mins) write down t

12、he 26 english letters and the phonetic discriptions for each letter, then classify the letters, for example, letters include the sound /ei/, a, h, j, k which letters include the sound/1:/, /e/, /ai/,/ju:/, / u /, /a:/?activity 1.5 (10 mins) work in pairs to write down as many english phonemes as you
