3、al word pairs that are synonyms in british english and american english which also shows the difference between american and british english.3. in this lesson, students will be able to gain a general understanding of how the differences between american and british english come about after reading t
4、he text.materials/sources:? blackboard and multimedia equipment (including computer, overhead projector, big screen, etc)? listening material (shown in ppt slid or overhead projector) (see appendix a)? the different words between american and british english which represent same meaning (shown in pp
5、t slide or overhead projector) (see appendix b)? “ fill in the chart” (shown in ppt slid or overhead projector) (see appendix d)? writing evaluation sheet (see appendix e)procedures:a. opening: (3 min)(before teaching this lesson, i will give them a task to search on internet about the different wor
6、ds in american english and british english, which contain the same meaning.)1.write on the blackboard:“ in fall, the leaves fall.”2. ask the students:“ who would like to tell us what thissentence means? ” while asking them to payattention to the two words“ fall” . so as to educe another word“ autumn
7、 ”.3. give a question: “ whatis the difference between autumnand fall does, anybody knows? ”thestudents will give the answer:“ because fall is american english while autumn is br4. tell students:“ yes, although english is spoken on both sides of the atlantic, there are still many differences第 1页共 6页

(12min)ask students to listen to the tape by telling them:“ now, listen to the tape. there are two perswho are talking with each other. the man is an american who has come
9、to britain for the firsttime while the woman is a british. listen carefully and then answer the followingquestions:what is it that the man can t find in the bathroom? why can t he find it?allow students to discuss with partners for a while and ask them to answer it.“ this dialogue also shows that de
10、spite the fact english is spoken on both sides of the atlantic, slight misunderstandings may occur between native speakers from great britain and the united states. ”ask students to look at the screen of the ppt (see appendix a). and ask:“ who would likeread the dialogue for me, any volunteers?” let
11、 two volunteers-playtheto diaroleogue.tellthe students: “ indeed,there are many differencesbetween americanand britishenglish.nowcan you think of the words that are differentinamerican englishand britishenglish?discuss with your partner and list as many as you can in a paper.”list the words that the
12、y can find on the blackboard and present the ppt slide of“ thedifferences between american and british english” (see appendix b).2. learn about how these differences between american and british english come about. (25 min)tell the students: “ now we have learned that there are many differences betw
13、een american and british english, do you know how these differences come about? now read the text and you willfind the answers.”divide students into three groups and ask each group to read one paragraph and ask them work together to find one reason about how the differences come about.after two to t
14、hree minutes, ask each group to state the reasons. and then write the reasons on the blackboard.then ask the students to read the full text and let them do exercises (see appendix c).after that give them a chart to fill in, which can help students know clearly about the structure and content about t
15、he text (see appendix d).after that, still give students several minutes to understand the text and then ask volunteers to retell the text with the help of chart.c. closure (5min.)1.ask the students: what was the main point of today s class material?2.have students written a paragraph that begins wi
