Robots make great explorers on planets, moons, and other landing areas. Aside from the earth, just about every surface in the solar system is unsafe for humans to explore. The air on most other planets is insufficient fortunate for humans to explore. The air on most other planets is insufficient for humans to breathe, making it necessary to wear a space suit and oxygen equipment. The temperatures on these surfaces are much too hot or much too cold for any humans to withstand. Plus there would be complications with radiation, weather, and a lack of gravity. Robots have much less limitation in these areas and can survive much longer under these conditions. Robots are designed for collecting scientific data. Robots are also able to perform many tasks at one time and can process information much quicker and more efficiently. Important scientific projects from detecting minerals, analyzing ground samples, to finding water are all performed much quicker and accurately by robots. The use of robots has made the cost of space exploration much less expensive than it would cost for humans to do the work. In order to successfully send humans into space we would need to build a vehicle that can not only carry humans, but also enough food and water to keep them alive for the duration of the trip. Moreover, robots have no problems working for hours on end. Robots never complain, they dont require food or water, and they never need a bathroom break. Over the past 30 years or so there have been many different types of robots used successfully in the exploration of space. Perhaps the most famous and successful robots are Spirit and Opportunity who have both been exploring the surface of Mars. They have both been very successful with experiments on soil and rocks and have even found evidence of water in Mars history.4. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A. The Development of Robots B. The Discovery of Space Exploration C. No Robots, No Space Exploration D. Robots Are Used in Space Exploration5. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true? A. The use of robots in space exploration costs more than the use of humans. B. It is dangerous for humans to explore other surfaces in the solar system except the earth. C. Both Spirit and Opportunity have found the evidence of water on Mars. D. Many different types of robots have explored the space successfully.6. The underlined word “withstand” in paragraph 2 most probably means “_” A. remain B. bear C. defeat D. develop C A company has just launched what it calls “the worlds first free standardized English test” recently. Anyone can take the test for free. The new exam is called the EFSET, which is short for Education First Standardized English Test. The company, Education First, is known by the letters EF. It is estimated that there are two billion English language learners worldwide. Many of them are interested in attending an American college or university. To do so, foreign students need to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language better known as TOEFL. However, many foreigners are not wealthy enough to take the TOEFL. In addition, test-takers often have to travel overnight to reach an official testing site. The World Bank says an average Cambodian worker earns only about $1,000 per year. Approximately the cost of taking the TOEFL is 17.5 percent of the average workers yearly wage. It is not just individuals who find the test pricey. Some governments also find it prohibitive. Whats more, not everyone needs official results from the TOEFL or IELTS the International English Language Testing System. In the future, its likely that the government may use the EFSET to test millions of employees and students. Experts believe that the EFSET meets the highest value in language testing. It uses special computer software that makes the questions easier or harder, depending on ones performance. The EFSET measures all the English learners levels while the IELTS and TOEFL only measure learners levels from moderate (中等的) to advanced. The EFSET is unique in the sense that it gives free online access to anyone interested in measuring their English level. There is a 50-minute and a two-hour version of the test, which its developers are calling the EFSET Plus. Both versions test only reading and listening skills. Its hopeful that speaking and writing skills will be tested in the future. The IELTS and the TOEFL still use humans to rate the speaking and writing sections. Its a huge deal for students who are in areas where they cant get to the TOEFL or the IELTS. However, it is too early to know whether the EFSET results are acceptable for colleges and universities in America. 7. Why do many foreign students take the TOEFL? A. To learn English well. B. To be admitted to key universities. C. To receive further education in America. D. To find good jobs and earn much money.8. What can we infer from Paragraph 2?A. Only wealthy people can take the TOEFL. B. The cost of taking the TOEFL is very high.C. There are many official testing sites for the TOEFL around the world. D. Few of the students in Cambodia can afford to take the TOEFL.9. What can we learn about the EFSET?A. It is similar to the TOEFL and the IELTS. B. Everybody with different English levels can take it for free. C. It tests the skills of reading, listening, writing and speaking.D. American universities accept the EFSET results for admission.10. Whats the best title for the passage?A. How to get ready for the EFSET B. Different ways to test English learners in the world C. The new software developed by Education First D. The free EFSET an online test for English learners D Many of us are quick to blame others for how we feel: “He makes me so mad!” or “She really hurt my feelings.” But did someone really “make me angry” or are we feeling the anger in us getting kicked up in response to the way someone behaved towards us? If we blame others for our feelings we will eventually feel reasonable at whatever our retaliation(报复)may be, and we will explain that it was their fault, not ours.“They were driving me mad”. When we blame others for the way we feel we have in fact given power to others for the state of our emotional wellbeing(健康). The truth is, no one controls our feelings but us. If we are finding that people in our lives really know how to “push our buttons” then we are not doing a good enough job at protecting our “buttons.” We are the ones leaving our buttons out in the open so that other people can “push them.” Ultimately, the switch for our buttons is inside us not on the outside. While there are some things in life that are clearly out of our control, like the weather or a flight thats two hours late, how we act and respond to other peoples behavior is not among them. Our responses to others are well within our control. If someone is “making us” so mad, for example, that we get angry, we are not doing enough to learn about what drives our anger and how to properly cope with it. my suggestion is taking time before you get angry, and putting some work into taking an inventory(清单)of the past. An inventory can show you how much of your past experiences influence your feeling reactions in the current moment. When we finally realize that so much of our present feelings and reactions are driven from within ourselves and our own past experiences, we will be ready to make the changes in our lives that will better secure our buttons so that they are no longer left out in public for everyone to push at will.11. What result will appear if we blame others for our emotions? A. We consider others to be correct. B. We consider ourselves to be correct. C. We consider we were driving ourselves mad. D. We consider they were driving themselves mad.12. Whats the authors attitude towards feelings? A. We should blame others for the way we feel. B. We should enable others to control our feelings. C. We should let others know our daily life clearly. D. We should control personal feelings ourselves.13. According to the author, which can always be under our control? A. The weather conditions. B. The delay of a flight. C. Other peoples feelings. D. Our own behavior.14. Which proverb best suits the authors advice in Paragraph 5? A. A burden of ones choice is not felt. B. A friend is easier lost than found. C. Think twice before acting. D. A good beginning is half done.15. What does the underlined phrase “push our buttons” probably mean in Paragraph 3? A. Force us to do a good job. B. Make us angry. C. Take off our buttons. D. Let us down.第二部分:七选五(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) How to Love Your Parents Even if you think that your parents are mean-spirited at times, loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of lifeYou love them for the fact that they created you, raised you, and are in part, a source of who you are_16_ Tell them you love them every morningA gentle good morning and I love you will warm a coldest heart.
